How long should a single player game take to beat?

i really don't have the attention span (nor do i have the time to play as much as i did when i was a kid) to play long games anymore the more shorter a game is the better, heavenly sword was a great short game, i enjoyed it a lot because i can play it in short bursts and still enjoy it and complete it.

10-20 hours is the best for me. that way I don't get bored and I have time to play it in a month so I don't forget about the story.

That said, quality>quantity...but quantity is nice sometimes. also depends on what sort of game it is.

Depends on the game. Good games should be longer

i say about 30 or 40 hrs. i want something for my moneys.

or 12-20 hrs with a high replay value!

I say that better quality the storyline, interest level and graphics, the better it is if it's longer. Like you just don't want it to end. But I put 10-20 hours.

I say that better is longer, but not if with cost of lame grahics, like some long crappy games, best is long, and good graphical

Tough choice between 10~20 and 20~30.
I prefer action and shooter games to fall in 10~20 range.
For games that has good amount of character development, I like them to last 20~30 hours.
RPGs, including action RPGs, should last 40~50 hours but frequently I stop playing after 30 hours or so, and come back some months later to finish up.

Edit: I voted for 10~20. I like some games to have 20+ hours single player but in some genres that totally bores me out.

Hey Death, i love the avatar. Dragon Warrior Monsters captured more than 70 hours of my life when i was young. i love a good long game. but l also like short sweet kirby squeek squad. it really depends on the game.
