You know, the one in the little yellow insulator I'm looking at through the plastic right now.

Is it just for the clock function? Someone explain what it does and how long it lasts please?

I'm not sure what exactly the EZIV battery is responsible for (except internal clock of course) but people report lifetimes from 2-5 years.
