PS1/2 How do you tell if a PSX is chipped?

I recently picked up a Playstation 1 from cash converters(20AUD and it came with a free controller and all the cables

) I dont if its chipped or not. The PSX menu looks weird and if I remember correctly modded playstation 1's had a weird screen. Can somebody confirm this with this picture

Ah, that rainbow splatter stuff is sparking something in my memory but I don't know what...

I've only played normal PS1's during my lifetime...

Easiest way is to just burn a backup and pop it in lol. If it works, chipped! If not, not chipped!

no thats the 2nd gen PSX boot screen, nothing to do with the "chip"

Yea like neph said, that's standard boot screen. There's no way to tell other than taking it apart real quick and see if someone soldered on the chip. I know since I still have my modded psx haha.
