Any youtube tutorials? I can't seem to find any...

I got my wii u at launch, and I'm finally going to go ahead and hack it for good.

EDIT: Also, is it possible to make channels for Wii and gamecube games and access them all on the Wii U menu instead of going into the vWii?

You have to inject individual games via the Wii VC injector.

https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-wiivc-injector-script-gc-wii-homebrew-support.483577/

All gamecube games can be played via gamepad, only some Wii. This compatibility list will tell you which can/can't.

https://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/WiiU_VC_Wii_inject_compatibility_list

And yes this injector will allow you to install them like Wii U games (via WUP Installer GX2) and they will be on your Wii U menu.

I'm assuming you have an external hard drive with a y cable or plug into wall? If not you will need one. You will run out of space on your internal quickly. Can't use an sd card for this but you will need an sd card to install the games.

I will get a new hard drive just for this. I have the wii rips, and they're in a DEC file type? Is that correct? The name of the file says iso dec in it. Is this correct.

Sounds like you have decrypted ISOs, which are not much good for anything. Not sure where you would even find decrypted Wii ISOs these days since they were only used for a short time, when softmods weren't able to load encrypted backups.

Can you privately message me where I can get regular ISOs then? I'm not sure since I searched a lot of places and came across a google drive with these file types.

It's just a guess, the files might be something completely different, but I can't imagine what else they could be.

You can't ask for links to ROMs/ISOs here and honestly I don't know these days anyway because I use private trackers for that kind of thing, but have you checked some of the torrent sites? Last I checked many games were easy enough to find on torrents while others were almost impossible to find so it might depend on what games you're looking for but you should be able to find at least all of the popular games.

Edit:
It looks like you can use this tool to convert them to normal ISO https://gbatemp.net/threads/nkit-re...-and-gamecube-disc-images-as-playable.548479/
It seems the iso.dec format is indeed decrypted, but I assume it contains the key needed to restore the original encrypted ISO within it.

So I also found WBF file or something like that.
Basically, I have that, I have a DEC file, and I have a folder with code content and meta for 3 different games.
I'm still not sure which one will inject into the wii u...

You can't use WBFS because Wii VC needs proper ISOs. You need to convert the iso.dec with the tool I linked.
I was going to convert the WBFS to ISOs.
Either way, I'm trying to get all the wii games to show up on my wii u menu using the tools which are linked above. Will the converted WBFS files work?

That might work but no guarantees. Anyway, I wouldn't recommend it as converting the WBFS back to ISO will not produce an 1:1 original ISO whereas converting the iso.dec will.

Just use wbfs on the wii vc injector, it works and those are the smaller files.

All Isos were made to fit on a disc that's over 4 gb, but there's padding in most of them to make them that size, wbfs removes the padding.

You know what, to be safe, I'll download both the file formats just to test...

Do what you want but it says so right on the first post in the injector thread.

Supported Injection Types:
  • Wii Retail Game Injection (ISO / WBFS)

wtf. Why are all ISOs the same file size? around 4.58 GB??
Because the way they are made is first the beginning of the disc is padded with blank data (this is because towards the center of the disc, read speeds are lower as one rotation of the disc contains less data than it does towards the outer edge), then the file system is encrypted, what WiiScrubber did was figure out where the blank data is located (which no longer appears as blank after encryption) and replacing it with a series of 00's or FF's so that the ISOs would compress. You can't easily make the ISO smaller, because removing the blank data from the beginning would make all the offsets wrong, and the actual data goes all the way to the end.

The iso.dec takes that one step further by decrypting all the data which makes it more compressible since it no longer appears as random garbage. Those files might be usable in Dolphin but would likely fail on a real Wii or Wii U.

The ciso format supported by wit takes that even further, actually building compression into the format itself but it is not directly readable by other things and also requires conversion. This is the only format out of the 3 that results in the file itself actually being smaller, but compared to an iso.dec inside a rar or 7z archive doesn't seem to offer any benefits.

You could actually modify ISOs to remove the blank data from the beginning resulting in a smaller file. The problem with that is, the ISO needs to be trucha patched, and now it is no longer clean, will not work when burned to a disc on an original Wii without jumping through additional hoops (and even if you do so, due to the blank padding not being there you may have lag issues in cutscenes or when the game is loading data in realtime), and can not be restored to an original 1:1 rip - it will play just the same on a USB loader or in Dolphin, but in both those cases, you can use WBFS files which does the same thing, but also optionally rips out update data, so there is not much point in it. ISOs are kept around more as a way to have clean rips when really for actually playing the games WBFS has a number of benefits over them, and the way Nintendo originally designed the data layout on the discs, they were purposely designed to fill the entire disc.

Do you know where I can find WBFS files? I downloaded a file but now I can't remember where I got it from....
