I have played a lot of n64 games on VC but I think the game I played the most was SM64. At first I did find it weird to use the right analog stick as the C buttons but then somehow kinda got used to it. Until I recently started playing majora's mask and realised once again how weird and unprecise it is to use the C buttons with an analog stick specially on this game because they are fundamental to have a good experience, I mean each direction controls a weapon/item/whatever. I found myself failing a lot of ocarina notes because of this or choosing the wrong weapon/mask specially on boss battles when things get intense. It's been rather frustrating at times but now I found a workaround.
I set up plus/minus as A/B. ABXY as the C buttons. ZR (which is menu by default) as Start. This is only possible on the gamepad since it has plus/minus buttons very close.
It's not ideal but it kinda works... I guess. Suddenly again I'm looking for an adapter. n64 to wiimote sorta thing, I know there are a few but in my research I read they may have higher latency than simply plugging a wii classic controller.
I wanna know what's your ideal setup for games that rely a lot on C buttons (like zelda).
I'm just hoping that nintendo releases a n64 mini soon to grab an official controller with a wiimote plug just like they did with the nes/snes mini.

I use standard configuration and SOMETIMES I config like gamecube controller on WiiVC. Use Y and B like A and B; Use X and A like left-C and right-C. R like down-C and ZR like Z. This is ok for me to play Zelda games but should work great with SM64 too.
I would like to ask, do you note some input lag?

not at all but I'm aware there is. Some guy on youtube made a video comparison and he literally had to slowdown it in order to actually tell a difference.
