It's a lot more painless to use Any Title Deleter, which will take about 10 seconds to do what you're trying to accomplish without any extra tools.

Just wondering, but does this keep the ticket on the Wii? If not, then when you insert a game with an update, it will install them back on. If it does keep the ticket, this would probably be an easier method.

There is a much easier way. Just run WUFE with a newer game and gather the wad files for the channels you want to remove. Then just use the wad manager to uninstall them.

You could also just download the wads from a well-known ISO site...

even if you do remove the forecast and news channel, you dont free up any space. i tried.

You do free up some space. The forecast and news channels each use two wad files, one for the content and one for the channel. To correctly remove them you would have to uninstall both wad files.
