What is the safest way to update my Emunand/emu emmc? I used Hekate to create the emunand on my SDcard and it is currently working as intended. I am using 4.0.1 on both sysnand and emunand and I would like to update so that I can play online as well as play the latest games. What would be the safest procedure to follow to get my emunand updated? Will it burn fuses? Thanks and please answer kindly.

Updating your emuNAND will not burn fuses. The only thing that can burn fuses is updating your sysNAND without AutoRCM.

Which NAND are you planning on using for legitimate online play, and which NAND are you planning on using for hacks? Using a clean sysNAND that's up to date is recommended for online play.

I was planning on using the emunand for online play, I thought that was the entire point of an emunand ? I thought that it was safe to go online with emunand?

Find the correct update file, and use ChoidujourNX to update but you won't be able to play online.
Why won't I be able to play online?

The purpose of an emuNAND is to keep your hacked NAND separate from your clean NAND. While you are free to use a clean emuNAND for online play and will likely be successful, people generally use a clean sysNAND for online play since it is, in principle, a little cleaner. The point is that you use one for all of your hacks and the other for all of your online play.

If you're using your clean emuNAND for online play, it should be updated using the system settings. If you are using a sysNAND on 4.0.1 for your hacks, you will not be able to play newer games with it. You will either need to update your sysNAND or create a second emuNAND.

If you use ChoiDujourNX on your clean emuNAND, it will become dirty, and you might be banned.

I am beyond confused right now since everyone gives different advice.

If I get banned on emunand am I also banned on sysNand? If so what was the point of Emunand?

Can I play backups online on emunand?

If I want to play backups offline on emunand, why should I use the nintendo updater instead of the choidujourupdater?

Will updating emunand using regular system update burn fuses?

If you follow my advice, you will be fine. I can't say anything about the advice of others.

Yes, if you get banned on one, you get banned on the other. The point of an emuNAND is to keep your hacked NAND separate from your clean NAND. For example, if you connect your clean NAND to the internet to play online, Nintendo will not see any of the hacked things you've done, since you hopefully did all of your hackery on the dirty NAND that's kept offline.

Can I play backups online on emunand?
No.
  1. Backups online will refuse to work.
  2. If you try, you will be permanently banned.

If I want to play backups offline on emunand, why should I use the nintendo updater instead of the choidujourupdater?
If you are using backups on an emuNAND, that emuNAND should not be connected to the internet (or the whole system will be banned). In that case, ChoiDujourNX is required.

If you are using online play with an emuNAND, that emuNAND should not be used with hacks like ChoiDujourNX (or the whole system will be banned). In that case, you will need to update officially using the system settings.

Will updating emunand using regular system update burn fuses?
No. As I said above, the only thing that can burn fuses is updating your sysNAND without AutoRCM being installed.

I had to use caffine with pegascape to get emunand set up/boot into cfw. Wouldn't nintendo be able to see this? Does this in itself make my sysnand dirty? I don't have autorcm installed since I boot into pegascape using the DNS config, I have newshax installed on my sysnand am I screwed?

So for emunand offline backups, update through Choi?

Your sysNAND is dirty. If you created your emuNAND after you installed Fake News, or if you've used any hacks on your emuNAND, then your emuNAND is also dirty. If you connect either one to the internet (without using DNS-blocking and/or Incognito), then you might be banned.

If your emuNAND is clean, then it should be relatively safe to connect online with it.

They are both dirty then, I was advised on here to use pegascape to mod my switch. I guess I got trolled pretty good.Is there any way to clean my sysnand now? I have only used the pegascape dns to connect online.

If you have a clean NAND backup, you can restore it.

I followed this guide https://switch.homebrew.guide/hacking/caffeine/pegascape. It look's like my nand is dirty.
I don't know if anyone has been banned for Fake News. If you haven't done anything else, then your sysNAND and/or emuNAND might be relatively clean.

Edit:You told me on a different thread to use caffeine and when I asked about the USB-C cable you told me I didn't need it.
You don't need a USB-C cable with the warmboot browser exploit, correct. However, my recommendation is the RCM exploit when possible.

I'm a little butthurt but oh well. I guess I will update to FW 8.1.0 on emunand and enjoy backups.

You can use online play with your emuNAND if it's otherwise clean, but you need to use your sysNAND (or another emuNAND) for backups and all other hacks.

When you say otherwise clean, you mean outside of the fakenewshack? I have fakenews on both sysnand and emunand.

So did you backup your sysnand first and foremost before doing anything else?
If you backed everything up first, before you install fake news to your sysnand, you can just restore your sysnand (as recommended by Lacius).

It is my honest opinion that it would have been better for you to use your sysnand for online activities and your Emunand for hacks. Thus it would have been more expedient not to install a Homebrew such as fake news on your sysnand.

I know perhaps you wanted to keep your sysnand on 4.1 but updating it to 8.1 and playing online is generally the safest way to avoid the ban hammer.

No I followed the guide I posted above to the letter and I have fakenewshax on sysnand and emu.

I don't see any evidence that Fake News has caused any bans, and this is one of the few things that a system reset might remove. If you want to play online with your emuNAND, it should still be relatively safe to do so. However, you cannot use backups with your emuNAND in this scenario, and if you've already used backups with your emuNAND, it's dirty and should not be used online.

For backups, you will either have to use your 4.0.1 sysNAND (not recommended, since a lot of games aren't compatible with 4.0.1) or make a second emuNAND just for backups.
