Stay away from WBFS, it is old and antiquated. FAT32 is where it is at right now, NTFS also works but last I checked it wasn't as well supported. ModMii will give you all you need to go, also look at the stickies at the top of the Backup Loaders page.

As said - avoid the WBFS formatting - FAT works for me

    As for 'setting up etc....
IF you run modMii - you just answer a few simple questions like 'What is you current Wii version' & 'what do you want to upgrade to', 'would you like the Wii channels installed' etc

It will then download all required packs needed to softmod your Wii.
You then copy the files over to a SD memory card (NOT a SDHC card - IIRC there's sometimes problems with using them) - which you put into to Wii... then you follow the guide that ModMii shows you.

Once done you have a softmodded Wii capable of using an external USB HDD

.. couple of things to note however... you will need to run modmii TWICE
    i) First time to get the files for softmodding, the second to get the files for USB HDD support
ii) Depending on your Wii, you MAY not be able to playback DVD's or 'homemade' Game backup disks

As for copying your games - you use Wiiflow (I think it comes with WiiFlow - but I could be wrong as I haven't used it for quite a while, I think the latest ModMii actually give you a choice) - inside that there's a function to 'rip' (copy) games to HDD

You place your original game into the Wii slot - run the 'copy game' option & it'll 'rip' the game to the HDD

You then use Wiiflow to run the game from the HDD

Not necessarily you only need to run modmii once it asks you when you are going through the softmod setup if you wish to run games from a hardrive. As for the formatting yes stay away from wbfs i use ntfs and configurable usb loader now supports ripping to ntfs and i like configurable usb loader more than usb loader gx.

Ah right - XFlak must've changed that part since the last time I used Modmii... when I last used it (about 6months ago) you had to run it twice.....

Seems alot of trash talk about WBFS, whats so wrong with it? (besides being older), I`m currently using it and it works perfect.

I would avoid WBFS partitions because
-you cant use it for other files
-you need special programs to access it
    -windows wants to format it

    historical
-there was no proper fsck (fixed by wwt)
