How do I play DSI roms? Evertime I boot up shantae I get an error "load rom errcode=-5". Help would be much appreciated.

They should work as-is (in DS mode only, of course) - if they are verified good dumps and still don't work, try a different kernel (like YSMenu) since that's the only thing influencing compatibility

DSiWare does not count and is not made to run from slot-1 at all (with very few exceptions)
