I must confess, on a whim, a friend and I had someone softmod our Wii's. My Wii is currently running 4.1U, and I still haven't upgraded from Homebrew version 1.0.3. I've bought a number of games recently (Wii sports, EA's fitness, etc.) and haven't had any problems; however, I was warned that when I inserted my purchased version of NSMB, that the system update would undo the modifications my Wii has had done to it. Will anyone be able to offer suggestions on how I could maintain the Homebrew functionality of my Wii but also play my store-bought version of New Super Mario Brothers? Thanks.

    Load it through a loader.

I used uLoader to get around the NMH 2 system update and it works fine. If you've got cIOS rev14 or lower I suggest NeoGamma.

No, run it through Gecko OS. After the first time through it shouldn't ask for an update anymore.

I have cIOS installer, IOS downgrader, uSB Loader GX (which I use to boot most games) - I don't believe I have Gecko or Neogamma. Should I get these? Is it complicated to install? Will upgrading the Homebrew to 1.0.6 help?

You can get NeoGamma from the backup loaders subthread and Gecko OS from Wiibrew.org

Pardon my noob-like skills, but when I downloaded Gecko it came in as a file folder and the NeoGamma came as a .rar file (which I unzipped and it turned into a .wad). Do I just copy the folder and the .wad file onto the SD card and open them again when the SD card is replaced in the Wii?

You downloaded a channel of Neogamma. Where did you download it from? And the GeckoOS folder should have a boot.dol, a meta.xml, and a icon.png in it. Copy it to SD:/apps

In the Gecko folder put the contents of that app folder into your app folder on your SD. Use WAD Manager for the wad.

I downloaded Neogamma from http://gbatemp.net/index.php?showtopic=158884 (the latest version)

There is an HBC folder within the Gecko folder that has another Gecko folder containing a boot.elf, icon.png, and a meta.xml. Are those what we're needing?

Copy the second Gecko folder (the one inside HBC) to SD:\apps

I am on 4.1U with a modded Wii. I ran the NSMB update... no problems. It's not 4.2, just a bugfix thing.

I can also run it through Configurable USB Loader v48 with no issues, no hacked version, or cheat codes or anything.

I was afraid to do this. I had a buddy that had similar versions, but he couldn't remember if his went through an update when he inserted the game (too many drugs?). NSMB worked on his but not mine.

By the way the Gecko Loader seems to have worked!

Yes. Copy the Gecko folder that contains the three files to SD:/apps.

    So:

    SD Card-> Apps-> Gecko-> Boot.elf, meta.xml, icon.png

    That's it.

    EDIT: WowI'mlate.
