i want to create a backup because if something goes wrong I can restore and have all my apps the same

I think you go into sysnand options the sysnand backup/restore then nand backup. am I correct I just wanna check cuz I don't want to screw up my 3ds.

edit : aaaaaaand I spelt how incorrectly ಠ_ಠ

Use Hourglass9 and pick which you want to back up.

That's correct. On Decrypt9 remember to choose the option "Keep a9lh", so you are double sure that it won't overwrite FIRM partitions in which a9lh is stored

You can use Decrypt9WIP, but Hourglass9 is meant for users who don't know much, and I'd recommend you to go with it.

Actually, he's not asking about restoring, but backing up.

But yeah, that's it. You're correct.

Yes, they're the same program, just Hourglass9 has fewer options.

More than that, they're just NAND backups which can also be used with a hardmod.

Because everyone have an emunand, it's just a copy of your nand. The ideal use of it is to remain updated when new system updates are released. You can find out what it other uses it have on google.
