Anyone know how to convert those DSiWare .cia files to regular decrypted .nds?

I'm not interested in playing on a real console, instead, I want to test the games on No$gba, but it only loads .nds files. So far I've been unable to find a tutorial to convert from .cia to .nds.

I downloaded a tool called dsi_srl_extract, but it didn't do anything, or maybe I don't know how it works.

Can anyone provide a step by step guide as to how to do it?

But you asked in that thread too.

So what? He's asking a legitimate question.

Yes I asked there too, but since it's the opposite of what that thread is about, I decided to make a new thread about it and possibly help other people looking for the same information.

And in case you are following me around, I also posted the same question over at 3dsiso. See? I saved you the trip ;)

No, the thread is about converting .bin/.nds to .cia (the opposite of what I'm asking).

i think i saw it before but i cannot find it now.
to convert the decryptred dsiware to cia, we use makerom, and the -srl command?
how do we do it exactly?
just -srl, the input file and the output file name?

Why not just download the nds game from the multiple sites that are hosting it?

Here's what you're searching for. And I already said, that should be in the guides subsection :).

From looking at these cia's, it's just a matter of chopping off the first 0x3900 to get back to the original srl. Hex editor level work.

Wait does converting them to .nds mean we can play DSiWare on a DSi console?
If you inject them into DSiWare games or convert them into CIA's, they would work on a 3DS. I'm not sure about playing them on a DSi though, but I don't think that there is a way.

Ah ok, thanks. I thought maybe there was a way to convert them to be a DS ROM file or something.

What if one does, though :)

And does something like Four Sword Anniversary Edition really use any of the DSi's extra power?
The CycloDS iEvolution supported DSi Mode, but I'm not sure if it loaded DSiWare NDS ROMs.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

Just give it a try, but honestly if you have a 3DS you can play DS games without a card just off the internal SD card
