Is it possible to use cheats like action replay or ocarina with the backups you make of GC games? If yes how would I go about doing so?

in neogamma's settings screen, choose ocarina to "on" and hooks to "Vl buggy".
You need to put the codes onto a SD card, but
you can use Accio hacks to DL the cheats, or use codemanager to DL the codes, google up codemanager and accio hacks for more details. Also, goto Wiird database for codes http://geckocodes.org/
    use the latest neogamma also....

Where does the "codes" file go on the SD card? The root or in the Neogamma folder?

the "codes" file goes in the root of the SD card, but you need to use codemanager with a SD card in your computer, it'll automatically create the codes folder for you.
again, goto http://geckocodes.org/ , pick your game, choose GCT, click add more codes from inside box, click download gct, once you get these gcts, move into the code folder or use codemanager to do it.
