Today i found a wii and took it home to see if it's working, it works and there is usb loader installed, so i tried my hdd on it but when i push the usb loader, the screen just freezes and nothing works then.. So i wonder how can i find out or the wii is modded ?

pretty sure there is no hard mod method for the wii seeing the system has multiple exploits for the latest firmware the reason the loader is crashing is either because the previous owner never installed CIOS or your drive is not formatted correctly

My Wii has both.
I soldered a modchip when it was released, then later I softmodded it when the modchip wasn't useful anymore.
I didn't unsolder it, it's just there, unused. so, it has both.

the hardmod is mostly use to play burned discs or other region, and the softmod to play iso from an external storage.
of course, some softmod could play burned disc too, it would be easy to check such mod without opening the console. It would be harder to check if you have a hardmod without opening the console as it requires removing all softmod and see if burned discs or other region still work.

First, to see if it's softmoded ... it has HBC so it is.
Then, if you want to know which other soft modification you have, you can run syscheck (see the tutorial in my signature) and post the result here.

Thanks for your answer, there is no hbc on the wii, the 2gb sd cart has maps apps, config, images, private, wad end on the root there is boot.elf. installer and ios38-64-v3610.wad..

In map apps i find maps with cIOS38_rev14-installer and Dop-Ios MOD and Hermes_cIOS_installer and Neogamma and usbloader_gx and WAD-manager_v1.4

In map config i find GXGameFavorites.cfg and GXGlobal.cfg

In map wad i find NeoGammaR7.wad and USB Loader GX-UNEO_Forwarder.wad and USB_Loader_GX-ULNR-r688.wad

Don't know if it's any helpful information?

I suggest running ModMii and treating your Wii as if it is virgin.

That will resoftmod the Wii and install all the needed cIOS/loaders you need.

Edit: Modchips are pratically dead.
Sundrivers are replacement ODDE's for the Wii's DVD drive but I doubt you have one of those in it.

ModMii is a PC application made by XFlak.
It basically is a all in one tool to softmod Wii's.
It has a simple to understand GUI if I'm not mistaken.

One thing that just occurred to me.... The sound on the 2600 sucked less back then the harsh sound we hear now is from infinitely better speakers we have now, back when the 2600 was new speakers produced a almost muffled sound, like CRTs made old graphics look slightly better.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I wonder if I could recommend that to some emulation devs that perhaps the sound could use some smoothing out to simulate those old TVs
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I think a few of the early systems could benefit from that, at least up to the 8 bit generation, by the 16 bit generation I think TVs had gotten a lot better in almost every way

i dont have an sd card adapter but I have an usb sd card adapter

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
It's old but it's the best firmware out for DS stuff
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
it says it only works for the original R4, R4i Gold (r4ids.cn), R4iDSN (r4idsn.com) and Acekard R.P.G.
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
    nvm it does support mine
  • Xdqwerty @ Xdqwerty:
