With ZipZag, you can compress files into a .wad, or extract files from a .wad, or add files to a .wad ...

Because that's another type of .wad. It's probably the ".wad" from the Doom series.

A .wad is a .wad. Nothing else. It's just an archive, iirc. A compression method.

There are two kinds of wad file ...

Wally Game Texture Archive ... which is the most common kind of .wad ...

    &

Compressed Game Data ... which is the least common, but the kind we'd be talking about for the Wii ...

I don't believe Nintendo used the "Where's All the Data" format, created by another company years before.

Seeing this on Wiibrew, it's a totally new data format, or otherwise they would have said "It's just an archive, nothing else" [IMG]

I was talking about compressed files, by the way, I was never that interested in the Doom engine to do any research on it.

Apparently ZigZag is meant to work fine with the Compressed Game Data type.

Although I think dasfteg was doing something wrong when he recieved an error.

Now, returning to the topic, there's no public WAD creator out there. We'll have to wait for a leak, or a public release.

Either way ... ZipZag will open a .wad file ... you can also compress things into a .wad file ... I never told him he could make the kind of .wad file he wanted ...

Plus, wad creation programs are not that hard to find ...

Well after looking for ages for a .wad packer that can actually handle a Wii .wad file i have given up. All the .wad packers out there are made for Doom, Quake etc .wad files and will not open or repack Wii .wad files. Looks like we will just have to wait for a leak or an installer to do the job for us.

Seriously though, I knew this whole wad packer thing was gonna get ridiculous, after the VC release, so I figured a little preventative mayhem was in order.

When it becomes easy for everyone to do it, someone will release these pre-packed, or a little toolset will appear, with nice step-by-step, how not to kill your Wii, instructions.

Common sense should tell you that dicking around with stuff like this, without proper tools and instructions, is not smart.

Just be patient people, and everyone will get to play.

I'm starting to think that was a bad idea to make the VC hack thing public.. [IMG]

I predict that this topic is just the first of many..
