Wow, I'm impressed! This really feels like upscaling but on the actual system. I took some close-ups of the screen to compare, but I don't know how to post images on this forum

800px wide is not HD. It's widescreen SD.

Surprised the n2DS has the 800px wide mode. It's not exactly a standard resolution, and having it probably serves no purpose as official games don't use it, right?

The n2DS has it because it has the same screen as the n3DS. It is technically HD horizontally, but still SD vertically. It isn't used in any game as far as I know

So this dont work on o3ds?
Yes it does, it just doesn't work on 2DS

So it has a 3D screen too? Why would they do that?

The "3D" screen is a regular screen, with a parallax barrier added in front of the LCD to divert half of the horizontal resolution to each eye. The New 2DS XL uses the same screen, without the parallax barrier. As to why doing that? Because they can just keep the exact same production line and partners for the display and just use it with or without the parallax barrier as needed.

The only device with a particular display is the o2DS, that actually has a large single LCD display mounted vertically and software creates the illusion of two distinct displays.

Noob question I know, but what are the odds of this being used within Twilight Menu to output 800px DS games?

Not possible. The native DS resolution cannot be changed.
If you mean so that the scaling filter is improved, there's only been little progress, last I heard.

I realize this is meant to be more of just a proof of concept, but I'd like to use this for legitimate image viewing. Could you maybe update it to allow custom images? My idea is maybe a 6th gallery of images fetched from SD card, rather than baked into the executable (but of course I know development isn't that simple lol). Maybe I'll look into it myself with friends.

Would be amazing if we can get this tech into retroarch or other emulators. Especially if you want to do actual aspect ratio instead of 1:1 without excessive blur.
for what games? Im not aware of any games that squish themselves 2x (by half) horizontally on a crt.
However, I wonder how rectangular/wide vertically quote's mouth would look in 800px mode with this sprite I modified from cs+?
Since the pixels are not square, will pixel art look weird, as in pixels being rectangles? I'm sure it wont look pleasant.....
Honestly, pixel art like this looks jank and cursed as hell because it has a blocky look vertically but not horizontally.

Also, this is the way cps2 will look in 800px mode on 3ds, its not even the right aspect ratio, its far too crushed, and looks jaggy as hell compared to how this mario odyssey pic looks. Pixel art just doesnt look good in this mode, period, unless you do what the blurry version does, but that defeats the whole purpose of making it not blurry in the first place. Btw, if you can add my quote sprite and street fighter pics to the hori image viewer, that would be great, thanks!

However, it may be possible to make pixel art look ok-ish, if interlacing works well, if you use interlacing vertically to achieve 640x480 like cave story plus. almost like the gba does with the classic nes series

Actually, it looks pretty bad interlaced... save the gif to your phone/pc to see it in better motion

This is an ugly shot, but it uses my custom sprite for 800px mode

Is there any way to modify the source code of the hori viewer to add your own png files? How would I do this?
