Hogwarts Legacy - State of Play coverage roundup, game confirmed for release on Nintendo Switch

A 22-minute State of Play has aired, dedicated solely to the upcoming Harry Potter video game Hogwarts Legacy. The video shows a fair amount of gameplay, as you create your own character within the universe, who starts at Hogwarts as a 5th-year student. Your professors will teach you how to be a wizard during the day, and after class, you can explore the school. It takes place in the late 1800s.

There are also dungeons you'll be able to go to and fight monsters in. The combat system employs plenty of magic spells for you to learn and use against your enemies. You can use charms and enchantments to block attacks and fight back against more defensive foes. Weaknesses and resistances to spell types will need to be exploited in order to win. Crafting is in the game as well, along with skill trees for you to adapt to your playstyle. Magical beasts can be petted and can assist you in battle, with some that can be captured and saved from poachers. Broomstick travel is how you get around the world quickly, or on flying creatures.

Companions with their own stories can be recruited. Players will eventually unlock a piece of land that lets you build your own house and design it yourself. Locations outside the school have stores where you can buy clothes and equipment. As time passes in the game, seasons will change and affect how the world looks.

Hogwarts Legacy will be out this holiday season. Beyond the State of Play video, the publisher also confirmed that the game would be coming to the Nintendo Switch, alongside the previously announced platforms of the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Those with concerns about in-game purchases or microtransactions after their implementation in other Warner Bros. published single-player games will be relieved to learn that it has also been confirmed that microtransactions will not be in Hogwarts Legacy.

Regarding the lack of microtransactions, fans asked why Hogwarts Legacy uses real-time timers for crafting, to which the community manager for the game merely reiterated the fact that there are no microtransactions, leaving some wondering if it's just a mechanic to balance the game, or if WB is going to implement a form of monetization that isn't specifically microtransactions.

He also said he doesn't know why everyone is hyped for this game. People are allowed to be excited for anything...
someone saying they don't understand the hype behind a game doesn't mean that they're saying that everyone SHOULDN'T be excited. it literally just means one person doesn't get the hype behind a game.

As is standard the Twitter Warriors are out in full force again on twitter
They continue to not understand that

1. WB have heavily distanced themselves from JK Rowling
2. There are Transgender Character Options
3. JK Rowling is already a Billionaire gaining nothing and losing nothing from me buying or not buying a game about Wizards
4. A bunch of people boycotting a game, Does nothing to change the power and reach of JK Rowling
5. She literally cares not about whether you buy the game or not

So for anyone bitching, Just save it and let us enjoy this, I'm not about to ignore a franchise I grew up with and loved because the author is a terrible person.

I can't believe people would support a franchise written by a lady who believes there are only two genders. Who does she think she is, a biologist?
That just chaps my hide, and I'd never pay money for this game, not until she apologizes.

no ingame micro-transaction, only offgame macro-transaction then ?
DLC for seasons instead of ingame money ?
They could lock stories or missions or map area and release them later (like FF14? they are not considered micro transaction, right?)

Well, I hope not and they won't trick people by not having micro-transaction "at launch", but add them later...

I'm a little concerned about the battles, they don't feel easy to control at distance. I'm more a on-contact sword fighting type.

Pretty certain you don't know what passive aggressive means, because my post was not an example of it. They didn't just say they didn't think it looked good. They questioned why anyone else would be interested in it, hence my comments. The "slow" comment also seems strange coming from a person that platinumed Death Stranding, twice.

Dude, I just made talking points with the person after they questioned why anyone else would be excited for this game. No need to be so passive aggressive.
Passive aggressive or not, you got triggered lad...:P
Trolls gonna troll: you'll notice no-one else replied, that comment he made should just give you the usual rolleyes and move on. Don't feed em! ;)

Personally I'm also rather meh.. looks a damn sight better than the previous trailer, but like I've read further up, character models, particularly faces, are rather PS3-ish. Game world looks amazing though! Battle system... yeah like I've also read further up, looks a bit 'clumsy'. Also have to wonder if ALL the promises shown here are kept. Gotta wait till I play it before anything else really though, which I'm sure I'll have to whether I want to or not, coz I showed the trailer to the missus and she nearly pissed herself in excitement.....
The hate towards JK Rowling though.... come on she's just one of those massive bible bashing older wenches stuck in their older ways.. if you're a big fan of her work otherwise but are gonna boycott or whatever, get a grip - not exactly Jimmy Saville levels of evil is she...

Except, I didn't. You people crack me up with your "You mad bro?" comments. Wasn't in the slightest bit mad or "triggered". I was pointing out that different people are allowed to like different things. Although it seems to me like MY comments triggered OTHER people. Because you know, a couple people have responded to them.:lol::lol::lol::lol: Also, it wasn't concerning you AND you're a day late to the party, "Lad". This was already over with yesterday. There was zero reason to dredge it up.

From what I've heard, Wizarding World is distanciating themselves from J. K. Rowling

It's a wait and see type of game IMO. I'm not particularly convinced that the RPG elements play too heavily here, feels more like a fairly linear action-adventure. Also might end up EGS exclusive since they're still using the generic "PC" logo, but regardless I'll definitely be waiting for reviews and probably a half off sale too.

    I thought that said 10x (10 TIMES) faster than a 4060 lmaoooo

    I was like yeah, OK.
  • Sicklyboy @ Sicklyboy:
I'm definitely interested to see how that pans out. Like I said, more options is never a bad thing. I mean, bad for intel maybe if it totally flops. But for real, hopefully it works well and there's more competition in the gaming GPU space.

@Sicklyboy The first one says %36 faster than the 4060 but I think the second one is right since the first one I screenshotted from a yt video
