Hideo Kojima's Death Stranding will be out this November, new trailer unveiled

Hideo Kojima's absolutely wild looking game, Death Stranding, has just gotten its official release date. In the latest trailer, we continue to see the bizarre imagery from previous trailers alongside some brand new gameplay. Also shown is main character Sam (played by Norman Reedus) exploring massive landscapes, fighting enemies in bulky yellow hazmat-like suits, and riding a transforming motorcycle. Capping off the eight-minute video is the day the game will launch: November 8, 2019, as an exclusive for the PlayStation 4.

Death Stranding” is a completely new type of action game, where the goal of the player is to reconnect isolated cities and a fragmented society. It is created so that all elements, including the story and gameplay, are bound together by the theme of the “Strand” or connection. As Sam Porter Bridges, you will attempt to bridge the divides in society, and in doing create new bonds or “Strands” with other players around the globe. Through your experience playing the game, I hope you’ll come to understand the true importance of forging connections with others.

It's fun for people to hate something before release and call it a "Movie" right?
The story look promising, the gameplay look creative with new ideas, the graphics looks amazing, what else you want?
More info, mostly? When we have several lengthy trailers that put zombo.com to shame with their level of opacity, snark is more the understandable. Besides, the amount of highly cinematic elements combined with lack of gameplay footage puts a question on how interactive (and deep gameplay-wise) the game will actually be.

The snark itself comes from the right place, imo - I mean, while Kojima is incredibly talented, his genius is often blown out of proportion (he had his share of mediocre games too), and there were so many overambitious underdelivered projects last decade or so that it's kinda better to prepare for the worst rather than sign in for another potential disappointment. We had our share of Watch Dogs, Colonial Marines, Fallout 76s and tonsa Molyneux projects, and over time, people just stopped believing the hype.

That game was in development for years. I'm sure Kojima will set the bar very high... maybe this will become the spiritual MGS sucessor.

For some reason the gameplay reminds me of FF15. Landscape, character models, animation everything looks similar to FF15 for some reason. Also Nazi zombies confirmed

Some people dont know the difference in directing a game or produced. Directing a game it is your baby producing is where you just advise other people and they make the games. Kojima has not had his share of bad games that he directed they are all great. Producing maybe but again thats someone elses baby. Its funny you use games that Kojima didnt have a thing to do with as a reason to be cautious of this. You come across as a hater without sound logic to be one. Completely negative post all around we don't really need your preaching if you aren't interested in the game just don't buy it it's that simple. I don't feel this game has been overhyped at all mostly hate from people like you.

When the game comes out I will play it and if I hate it I will say I hate it if i love it I'll say I love it but I'm not going to try to review it 6 months before it comes out like some of you. But saying bad games have come out has nothing to do with anything it's a $60 game if it's bad we could sell it or whatever it's not going to break us if it does you shouldn't be buying the game in the first place. Kojima's games he directed are highly reviewed and mostly loved by all he has a great track record bringing up shit games like Fallout 76 accomplishes what exactly? Should I bring up God of War or Red Dead Redemption 2 as great games that came out that would just be just as pointless because Kojima had nothing to do with them or the games you mentioned. If you think bad games are a new thing you haven't been playing video games very long.

It's pretty funny how some of you think you have to warn people and save the world from this game you're not accomplishing shit.

More info? You never watched any of kojima's trailers before, didn't you? It was always like this, it was always about creating the hype, fans theories, ets.
And you are talking about the disappointing games and we should be prepared for the worst, sound like war is coming and this game will destroy us all if we are not prepared just because a trailer about a game that will be released after 6 months doesn't have enough info about the gameplay? That's what E3 is for.
Your whole argument about the disappointing games that was released in the last few years and this game that doesn't have enough infos is kinda funny, didn't watch dogs and fallout 76 have tons of gameplay videos before release? Do you see my point?
Do you hate your children before giving birth to them because you think they will disappoint you?
The game is not released yet, you don't need to hate something that didn't happen yet.

I hate Pokemon games, in fact I didn't play any of them because it's not for me, but You don't see me hanging on Pokemon's threads telling people how much I hate those games which I have 0 experience with.

I'm tempted to wait to play this after the PS5 is out since it is going to be PS4 back compatible. Same goes for pretty much any really big game coming out between now and PS5 release. This and TLoU 2 will more than likely both get "Remastered" versions anyway and I already have a back catalog spanning several consoles & PC that will last me that long and more.

Except MGS games were always provided with all sorts of tech videos, demos and playable side-projects, all representing what the game is actually about. Even his most cryptic project, Silent Hills, had a lot of stuff to show in its teaser demo.

Except you're overblowing the "hate" part. For the most part, people are just making potshots at the fact that the game fails to describe itself for so long - which is, frankly, kind of a valid reason to make potshots at this point. Let's flip it the other way around - it's less than 7 months before release, and development is already wrapping up at this point (which is what last 4-5 months of development are usually dedicated to), yet devs still don't have anything of substance to show us. Isn't it kinda alarming?

Doesn't hurt to be skeptical a little, though. Besides, your children analogue is frankly "would you download a car" level of logic, so I'm gonna ignore that, no offence X)

I think you're being more hateful with your response than people are "hateful" about the game - people are just snarking around for shits and giggles, and you're writing a whole essay on why everyone sucks :D

Well that was far more gripping than I expected it to be. Gameplay looks kinda like Horizon: Zero Dawn mixed with horror/survival elements. Hoping it comes to PC as well, and it was actually confirmed for PC back in 2015, but nothing further has been stated on that front since.

really nice trailer, with lot of new elements.
I can now understand better the connection with the entities and what they are.

something like war and deaths are a remnant of the past, like the anger of the world created a parallel and fractured world. Anger might have its own manifestation in that new place (like poltergeist manifest their anger in our plane), and your mission is to make the world whole again.
The fracture event might be a result of some mad scientist ideals, and different groups might be fighting for or against that.
the new world is stranded (connected psychologically) to all deaths that might have been used to create the fracture. see it like deaths are the price to power the fracturing device, which might even still be powered and active. Exactly the same than fullmetal alchemist movie, the war and deaths from WWII were the source to provide power for the alchemy stone in the other world. Same as FMA, the other world might even still be alive and has its own time flowing (maybe differently), the rain might be an important part in the flow of time principle that connects the two worlds.
again, that's only supposition ;)

I like the quote from the first post. mentioning creating a bound with others. Like you do in persona game series.
it'll be an attempt at connecting people, in a society where everyone is promoting its individualism. people are not meant to be alone and ought to look for social interaction. some manage to do it, others don't.

Sooo... The babies power up their monster detecting equipment?

yes, that's something I explained previously when talking about umbilical cords, even if my view looked a lot wicked and like I'm good for asylum. actually, it fits and correspond to what I thought until now. well, the game's title gave the hint about that.
more than "powering" the equipment to see the monsters, it's more "connecting" the hero to the monster's world. they are bridges between the two fractured worlds. you see that word on few facilities logo in the trailer. funny that's also the main character's last name.

I might edit that post to complete with new things I've learn today.

Which means next gen is right around the corner. Death Stranding will be a PS5 launch title. Same for The Last of Us 2, Call of Duty, possibly the new IP Rockstar is working on & the Final Fantasy 7 remake.

An essay? Maybe you don't know what an essay is. My post was two paragraphs plus one sentence calling you on your bullshit. Your post was two paragraphs, so it was one sentence less. When someone's going to say we should be skeptical because of games like Fallout 76 I'm going to call them on it because it's absolutely ridiculous. You're downplaying it now because you got called on a ludicrous post, now it's jokes and playful because you have no substance then or now.

are you sure it was this game and not another one from kojima?
It's not actually super clear on that point. It refers to the game as 'Kojima's first independent title,' which does seem to be Death Stranding based on this release date.

https://archive.md/aNiK3#selection-862.0-862.1

They haven't discussed the exclusivity period yet, and I don't think Death Stranding has been marketed as 'only on Playstation' anywhere. Seems a similar situation to what happened with Nier: Automata.
