Hideo Kojima discusses success of Death Stranding, says one of his recent projects was cancelled

Q83YVwt.png

Death Stranding was a success, both critically and financially, according to creator Hideo Kojima. The famous game director discussed his latest release in an interview with Livedoor, commenting on the fact that sales proved to be strong enough for Kojima Productions to make enough to recoup the development costs of the game, and to fund their next title. In terms of future projects, Kojima is still working with his team on the upcoming PC port of Death Stranding, alongside preparation for the studio's next project, which is still unannounced. That doesn't seem to be everything he's been working on lately, however, as he mentioned that he was secretly working on a "major project", but it had ended up cancelled. As for what's next for Kojima, it won't be anything involving Metal Gear or PT, apparently; when Kojima was questioned on if the rumors of him attempting to buy either IP from Konami were true, he laughed and said such rumors were a complete hoax.

Lol, he's an optimist. Terrible reviews, lower than expected sales, that barely covered the costs. Just retire already.

Critical success? What
I've seen everyone do nothing but bash the damn game ( except for the publications that cameo'd in it such as famitsu and ign )

The cancelled project was probably a movie seeing as all the talks/rumors about him doing movies have quieted down recently
If that's the case... It's probably for the best

You seem to just makes things up - ign gave the game just 6.8 - and metacritic 8.2 - the game is worthy of a playthrough and I think yr prob one of those who've not even played it - lets hope thers a sequel

Eh, I'd rather have Kojima make something he wants to make as opposed to being forced to do something he has no passion for.

I consider this game a disapointment personally, Hideos connection alone should make the numbers higher than what they were, factor in the circumstances too and they should have been a lot higher.

I personally wasn't feeling it pre release, post release really not feeling it. If Sony were to license MGS, this would be good, but Hideo won't want to work on it (I'd love another MGS), but ultimately I think what's best for Hideo's studio is being away from that now, creating new successful IP and becoming established in the market place.

"Gamers" are too barbaric to appreciate and enjoy something like Death Stranding. Their pleb-kind of behavior is called a mere-exposure-effect, they'd rather see something they've seen 1000 times before, instead of to engage in something completely new and different. If the world would consist of "gamers" only, we'd probably still bath in dinosaur shit and eat rocks for breakfast.

I read a Norwegian review the other day where the journalist praised it. The experience was so strong that during and after playthrough the person came back to thinking about death stranding several times an hour, every day.

Which other games have that effect on you? Some books do. "Story of your life" short story by Ted Chiang is one of them. This will be interesting, am waiting for PC release of death stranding...

If the majority of people can appreciate something like Death Stranding then problems like Corona won't happen, but it did happen, guess why.

The PC version's not out yet, but nolimits59 mentioned 3 million sales on the PS4.
I read that numbers too, but according to the one leaked the sales number, he also confirmed that Death stranding is an overbudged project and other $ony's 1st party studios are not happy to see the amount of money Sony gave to Kojima studio.
It was also rumoured that sales was merely enough to cover development costs. That's right, 3 million sales were just a "Break even".

I'm glad he now has the money to do new stuff. Death Stranding I'll probably pass on, however, even for PC. Seems like just as good an experience watching it, and perhaps not even all the parts of it.

I got it day one but realising it was a walking simulator, with a stupid story, I returned it. I don't know, as I grow older I see these convoluted "deep" japanese storylines as just dumb shit they were not intelligent enough to convey in a cohesive manner.

So I waited to get it for my collection. Picked it up yesterday for £13.

This sounds like satire. You know Death Stranding wasn't the first game to try out a new concept, right? Just because something is new does not automatically make it good.
