Hi all I'm looking for hopfully some help with new nintendo 3ds xl which has stopped turning on it shows a red flashing light but nothing on screens and when plugged in the orange charge light comes on any help is much appreciated thanks
OK thankyou for the reply do you have any idea what It could be if new battery dosnt solve it?Could be a battery issue. If you have access to a spare, try swapping it with a different one and see if the 3ds boots.
Usually, when the battery is the issue, the charging LED won't stay on any longer than a second or two. If the battery isn't holding a charge, though (IE, the power LED doesn't eventually turn blue) it very well could be shot. These batteries have a rather poor shelf life, and overcharging, or not charging them enough, will shorten their lifespan. If you're in the US, or somewhere that's not difficult to ship to, this has been a rather decent replacement for me. My battery started to bulge a couple of years ago, and I've just got around to replacing it. Haven't had any problems with this one.OK thankyou for the reply do you have any idea what It could be if new battery dosnt solve it?
How old is the custom firmware you have running on it? I seem to remember this being a thing in the earlier A9LH days.
Your SD could also be going bad. If the system can't read a boot payload from it, it'll display this behavior.

That usually means it was sold to be salvaged for parts. It might have hardware damage. That's the notification LED, though, not the power LED. This still usually means it's not able to find a boot payload on the SD. Download this ZIP archive, and extract its contents to the root of the SD.I got this as spares and repair off ebay
Thankyou very much I will try this and hopfully I can get somewhere (its a animal crossing happy home designer limited edition) and the listing didn't really say much just My daughter's 3ds stopped working. The screen does not come on. It flashes red when turned on. It shows the charging light when in charging. It may be a simple fix for someone but I have no clue about it.That usually means it was sold to be salvaged for parts. It might have hardware damage. Provided it's running a new enough loader, and this is the problem, doing this should get you a bit further. That all being said, we also don't know if it's hacked or not, so this is a bit of a shot in the dark. If it is indeed hacked, but the loader is just really old, this can be followed to get it up to speed.
Like I said, it's hard to say, especially since the seller didn't give much to go on. It's possible the video ribbon came loose or something. Do you hear any popping noises when trying to turn it on? If so, that's a pretty good indicator that it's physically damaged in some way.Thankyou very much I will try this and hopfully I can get somewhere (its a animal crossing happy home designer limited edition) and the listing didn't really say much just My daughter's 3ds stopped working. OK thankyou again I haven't actually brought it just yet I was just trying to see what the issue could be and if it was worth getting or notLike I said, it's hard to say, especially since the seller didn't give much to go on. Oh! Well, that does change things a bit. If I were you, I'd reach out to the seller to get some more info. They'll be the best one to answer the question about popping noises, at the very least.OK thankyou again I haven't actually brought it just yet I was just trying to see what the issue could be and if it was worth getting or not

Hm, that's concerning. I'd find a replacement ASAP if I were you. A bulging battery is dangerous for a lot of reasons, and it could even be the cause of the problem. The 3DS relies on the battery for things like time keeping, and a damaged battery will mess with things like that. Since it's not ever been hacked, this will likely be the first lead to take. Somebody else more familiar with the hardware side of things can also chime in. I think since the backlights are coming on, the video ribbon isn't disconnected, but I could be wrong.the battery is slightly swollen
OK thankyou so much for your time and help with this I will try a new battery I'm hoping it's not going to need a new motherboard as they seem to be quite hard to come by these days in the ukHm, that's concerning. Find one that has a broken screen or something. You'll usually have better luck that way, rather than looking for a standalone board.they seem to be quite hard to come by these days in the uk
