If one were to buy a Switch solely for the purpose of sitting it on a shelf some where until homebrew and other things are able to be hacked on to it (probably years later), do you think it would be most beneficial to apply the day-one update first before shelving it, or to not update it at all?..
without day one you won't have any online functionality like eShop, along with no SDXC support. I would day one update.

Wonder how long it will take before we get a DNS that blocks that...
Expecting a member of the homebrew community to host an entire DNS server just to block a few hosts is not practical/logical.

When I purchased a N3DS with 10.7 I ended up dropping connections to Nintendo on my router as the browserhax DNS was no longer available. Anybody who is technically capable and so inclined could add a hosts file or custom firewall rules to their router to block updates.

if there was to be an entry point for homebrew, I would put my money on the web appet for hotspots. This means that the day one update is needed. SDXC support will come later in a future update so I would update when that comes out also as SDXC support is a big deal.

Nah. I'll play Zelda first and then connect it to the web to download the stuff it needs.

If you're planning to shelve it, why even take it out of the box?
