if my games go on my micro sd card what do i need an r4 card for

3 could some give me a detailed explanation on how to play nds and gba games on a 3ds or point me to a thread about it

The micro SD card does not fit in the 3DS by itself, you know.
Any micro SD card is good. The size of the card depends on the number of games you want.
If you want to play GBA games, you need a Supercard DSTwo instead of an R4.

You get the roms for your DS games and you put them on the micro SD card. I do not own a DSTwo but I think it is the same for GBA games, only you would have to launch them from an emulator.

You'll want to buy a product called SuperCard DStwo. (You can get them on Realhotstuff.com)
And, you'll need a mini micro SD card.
The mini micro SD goes into the SuperCard, (which you'll put in the 3DS) and with the two combined, you can play GBA/NDS/GB/SEGA/ roms.

A mini SD card is not a micro SD card.

Stop double posting and you will find the answer to be yes, you need some flashcart in order to play DS games.

NDS card or Realhotstuff. They're both great.

You are posting three times in a row. Do not do that. Post once and edit a post if you need to.
You can use any sort of flashcart, as long as it works on your firmware. The DSTwo is the most reliable, gets the most frequent updates, and plays GBA games; get that.

Uhm. I THINK GBAtemp gets support from advertising. NDScard is a big asset to the 'temp.
    Yes! This exactly.

Also, it's best to organize all the games in a folder in your micro SD. Such as NDS folder for DS games, GBA folder for gameboy advanced games, etc

read this for more explanation http://gbatemp.net/threads/the-supercard-dstwo-beginners-guide-how-to-setup-the-dstwo.290190/
