I bought this switch lite legit and modchip about a year ago from a sketchy shop. It has worked fine and gave me no problems ever, I just remember there being written SX-something on the chip box. Fast forward to today and I am trying to install Linux using the guide given at --switchroot.org/noble & jammy-- but every time i do a partition, install it via UMS from my mac, and try to run it. It always gives me the error that The board was properly not initialized ( iykyk ) and thankfully it reboots in 10 seconds. I have tried updating my switch firmware, hekate versions, etc. But i have got nowhere near a successful linux boot.

I bit of digging in the already scarce resource pool, i heard a fix could be updating the modchip firmware. Currently I have been searching for a while but found no information on updating my SX chip. Is there a guide? Can somebody please give me a lead? I cannot go around breaking my modchip because they are hard to come by where I live, and as my switch is already banned ( its cool i dont like multiplayer games anyway ) that would be devastating.

olay i narrowed down the issue, i need to update my sdloader and it will work after that. Spacecraft-NX though has a way to do it but it requires dongle and to connect the modchip to pc. Has anyone update a modchip firmware on a switch lite? If yes, how did you do it?

As it is explained on github's spacecraft-nx :

For now you can't flash Spacecraft-NX without pluging in your modchip into your pc.

  • Plug in your USB dongle into the modchip.
  • Plug in your micro-usb cable into the dongle.
  • Plug in the other end of the cable to your Windows PC. (Linux support is work in progress. Feel free to send in a PR for OS X)
  • Download the latest release.
  • Unpack the archive
  • Double click the flash.bat DO NOT UNPLUG THE USB CABLE IN THE MIDDLE OF FLASHING OR YOU BRICK THE CHIP
  • Wait till it says !!!DONE!!!
  • Copy the payload into the root of the sdcard and rename it to payload.bin
  • On the first boot up your chip will enter into a training session, blinking yellow. This may take up to 30 minutes. (Recommended to plug in a charger)
  • After the initial training the chip will blink magenta and turn green upon successful boot up.

I upgraded my SX Lite chip this way, some years ago...you must use the USB ribbon sold with the modchip. You can buy it on aliexpress if you don't have it.

Hey! Any progress in your odyssey?

I want to do the same, and buy the USB ribbon, but before that I would like to know if doing the process allows you tu run Linux or Android in Lite with SX-Lite chip

yes, you will be able to launch Linux or Android (with Hekate).

But with SX Firmware, you can already use SX Gear to launch any payload you want, like Hekate, which can boot Linux, Android, Lakka, etc.
Spacecraft-NX will just make it easier because it can natively boot hekate payload.

Hello Badablek, thanks for giving me a north.

I am currently using Hekate, since what happened with Team Xecuter and as soon as I found out that Hekate already had support for SX chips.

However, maybe a year ago I tried to run Linux Ubuntu L4T on my Lite, but like many others it didn't run.

Either way I'm going to buy the adapter for the chip. This way I will be able to install Spacecraft-NX and simplify my life by launching Hekate natively.

maybe some incompatibility with SX firmware then ?

I never tried to launch Linux nor Android on my SX Lite before its conversion. But I know it works with spacecraft-NX firmware.

Well look, I don't know. But anyway I'm going to try it, after all the adapter only costs $2 on Aliexpress.
