I accidentally deleted an important Virtual Console save from my Wii and I am trying to recover it. Luckily, yesterday I did a NAND dump with YaWnD (yet another wii nand dumper) and it gave me a wiiflash.img file. Is there any way to somehow recover my save file from that file? If it helps, I have the common-key.bin file.

The image is only if you have the Infectus or a way of flashing the entire NAND.

    Sorry.

So there's absolutely no way to get my save off of there without getting a whole new modchip? That kind of sucks [IMG]

not even that. the dump is very likely not usable.
you'd have needed a file system dump.

If it's not usable why would someone make a tool to do it? This makes no sense...

if its a full 512Mbyte dump u will need a program called zestig to extract the contents of the img file and you will also need your nand-key

Yeah, good luck compiling it... the toolchain is a mess.

Are his tools precompiled somewhere that I don't know about?

its not a pain to compile if you have the right tools....

but making sure everything is right then you are fine,

using a cygwin module i even managed to compile a windows binary for it

the wii is constantly writing data to a certain area of the nand. so that changes DURING the dumping process and is bad data cause of that. the only proper way currently it bushing's method using the infectus and basically "crashing" the system to get an unchanged dump.

    Can't you just use openssl?

    openssl enc -d -aes-128-cbc -K a9ae7747a579d648765a54767964678 -iv 0 -nopad -i nand.img -o nand-decrypted.img

Of course, that key won't work for you, it's console unique.

why not just go back to nintendo shop and download it again, they have a log of everything you downloaded as long as you dont format your wii. simple

cause he's talking about a savegame, not the VC game itself.

The Wii uses a special type of encryption that while shares the same keying system as aes the decryption encryption process is unique..

besides zestic makes nice folders etc. [IMG]
