ROM Hack (Help) Ocarina of Time Hax

So, i wanted to help my friend to downgrade his 3DS, but he's on 10.6, so the only way for him to get to the homebrew channel is OoTHax, but i can't seem to install the hax.
My ideia is to install the hax on the catridge with my 3DS(That has homebrew) and then give him the catridge.
But when i try to install the hax, it gives me an error that it can't download the payload.
Am i doing something wrong? And what firmware must i choose, the one that my 3DS is on or the firmware that my friends's 3DS is on?

Ensure your wifi is on, install smea's starter pack to 3ds folder on your 3DS. Launch homebrew launcher through your entrypoint of choice and select OOT sploit installer and follow the prompts. Do not place the sploit_installer_oot3dhax.smdh or sploit_installer_oot3dhax.xml in a folder leave them in the root of the 3ds folder. It should work fine. I did 2 carts like 3 days ago.

You have to choose the target version (in other words, the version of your friend's 3ds)

obviously the firmware that your friend is on mate, i have done this for my other 2 3ds'es i have 3.

if you see 9.2.0.0.20 U < on your friends settings then download the otherapp bin off smealums site the "9.2.0.0.20" (but if it is a different version then use the smea site to download your friends version!) and place that file on the root of your sd card and then go through the homebrew menu choose oothax then i am sure it will download the hax and inject it in your oot.

if slot 1 does not work give slot 2 and 3 a try. any slot should work tho, make sure to choose new3ds if your friends 3ds is the n3ds.

I did this, but it just stays on "Downloading payload..." and nothing happens, i waited 30 minutes on that screen and nothing, i will try now leonmagnus99 ideia.

If the installer doesn't work, you can also try to install the hax manually using svdt or similar.

@leonmagnus99 gave the best description. I failed to mention you need to download the payload corresponding to your friends 3DS firmware. If you follow his post it should work fine.

One question, with this save, it will only work on that firmware, right? I tried to test the save on my 9.2 and it didn't work --- EDIT : I tried on my 10.6 (his firmware) on my Emunand and didn't worked.

FINAL EDIT: I'm dumb, i didn't knew that i had to read the paper on the wall to activate-it, sorry, it worked now.

You actually just have to press A after loading the hacked save, but I guess Feluco thought you had to look at the thing on the wall in the house.

Ah I see, I just press A but I cant get any of this to install its very frustrating.
