im gonna try it now, do i do it with sd card in? will that erase my files?

Your files will be fine it is a update type thing it will recover missing data sometimes

This means Luma3DS has trouble finding or loading/patching the NATIVE_FIRM. Your 3DS firmware is definitely softbricked.

1. Copy everything off your SD card.
2. Quadruple reformat.
3. Full Write + Verify test the empty card in H2testw. Do not skip.
4. If the card passes, delete the *.h2w test files.
   • If you get this error message, the hardware failed card must be replaced. Go back to step 1.
     • The media is likely defective.
   • If you use a fake or dying SD card, any attempts to repair the 3DS firmware in the later steps will super softbrick your 3DS.
5. Copy everything back to your SD card.
6. Backup your SysNAND *.bin image for safety.
   • GodMode9 Usage - Creating a NAND Backup
7. Attempt 3DS firmware repair with CTRTransfer + System Update to 11.13.0-45.
   • If you have any DSiWare games, you will need to relist them to HOME Menu and restore their saves with CTRTransfer (Type D9) - DSiWare Games & Saves.
   • If the DS(i) mode is broken, fix this with: [3ds.hacks.guide] DSi / DS functionality is broken after completing the guide
     • This requires another system update to redownload the TWL system titles.
   • For games not showing up in HOME Menu due to missing tickets, use faketik.

If your 3DS is still softbricked at this point,

8. Restore the SysNAND with the image made from step 6.

9. Re-attempt 3DS firmware repair but this time with CTRTransfer (Type D9) - CTRTransfer + System Update to 11.13.

• Re-add/relist the DSiWare games + saves as before. Check if the DS(i) mode is broke after the system update.
• Another option of fixing the DS(i) mode: [quantumcat1.github.io] DSi / DS functionality is broken after completing the guide
  • After installing those (5) TWL system title CIAs, this requires another system update to download their latest versions.

Thanks, im in step 6, however my sd card is full, how do i erase some spare installed games so i can do the backup, do i just erase them from my 3ds menu?

Copy and paste the Nintendo 3DS folder off the SD card over to your computer. This should temporarily free up enough space for you to complete all the steps.

Copy the folder back afterwards.

So I did the first 7 steps and my new 3ds xl worked for a while but now it’s back to being soft brick. I’ll try steps 8 and 9 and hopefully it’ll work

Make sure you use the version 1.4 of the (Type D9)'s gm9 script.

Do you recommend I keep trying or just sell the bricked console? Also can a new battery unbrick it?

Hello, sorry for the really waaaaaaaay late reply. I had a backlog of stuff to catch up on IRL.

Anyway, you say that your n3DS is back to being softbricked despite having used the (Type D9) script. Is this your error message?
