Updating the driver did not yield any result. Uninstalling the Realtek HD Audio driver and reinstalling it proved to be a successful solution.
Here are the steps that helped me solve the issue:
- Right-click the start icon and select Device Manager and then click Sound, video and game controllers
- Double-Click Realtek High Definition Audio
- Click Driver and choose Uninstall Device
- Do not check Delete the driver software for this device and click Uninstall
- Reboot the computer and wait until all the applications are loaded.
- Right-click the Speaker Icon in the Taskbar
- Click Troubleshoot sound problems
- Follow the steps without enhancements and choose Play test sounds
- Choose Bad (try reinstalling current driver)
- Reboot the computer preferably with the heaphone plugged in.
- When reboot is completed you should see the Realtek screen popping up. If you don't see it
right-click the Realtek icon in the taskbar (you may find it in the hidden icons) and choose Sound Manager.
- Check Headphone and click ok.
- if Headphone does not appear click the dark green button near Front Panel until you see the Heaphone line and check it.
