Hacking HBC apps crashing & giving code dump

Hi, im a noob
last week i got a new jap wii, modded (dont know what chip)
updated to 3.3j before realising it was bad.
So, i installed the new twilight hack, and installed HBC beta8 (after getting boot.elf errors, i formatted with the official formatting program or whatver and it worked)
HBC itself runs fine, but, most apps i try to open in HBC crash straight away. Im using the apps pack from the hbc website and thats the only thing on the sd card. Tetris and scummvm work, but most importantly, eveytime i open GECKO region free it crashes and gives code dump. same with Wii64. i tried formatting it multiple times, and using a different sd card, but same problem.
any ideas?

ok i tried uninstalling and reinstalling, same problem. and no gamcube memory cards.
I suspect it might be my jap wii not being compatible with these apps. I tried gecko OS (instead of gecko region free) and it works! but wii64 still crashes after like 2 seconds of opening
