Hacking HBC and internet connectivity

Struggling lately to get the wii to hook up wirelessly to the router , was always painful , tbh i think my router and the wii dont get on , however to just to eliminate any issues ... im right in thinking that the hbc / bootmii upgrade didnt/couldnt effect the wii seeing my router / connecting to the net at all in any way. before i go ahead a get a decent router
