I haven't been here for a while so I'm not really up to date with the news. I was wondering if the homebrew scene has made a pdf reader yet? If not, does anyone know why it is taking so long? If they can get movies running on the ds why not a simple pdf file reader? Seems weird...

Using a pdf to image converter then reading it with imageview doesn't take long and is your best choice now. Otherwise your fastest option would be to learn how to program, make one yourself and release a halfarsed pdf viewer that would probably lag the shit out of the poor ds and work 5% effective.

PDF is a really complex format... My computer struggles to run a PDF viewer and do something else at the same time, so how would the DS manage to do it?

Still, they consume much more resources than Irfanview would.

Just for the record. Both Foxit Reader (lightweight PDF reader) and Infranview consume approximately 3 meg of memory without anything open.

To test further I opened an image and saved it out to a PDF. Both of them displaying the same image (obviously one in PDF format) consume approximately 30 meg each.

(Both time, albeit by the smallest amount, Foxit Reader was consuming less memory, but I wouldn't take that to mean anything in this small test)

That being said, PDF is a far more complex format than just basic images. PDFs contain fonts, text, images, vectors, and all other sorts of things. You would definitely be much better off converting them to images to view them on the DS. Just handling the fonts by themselves (since the DS has no system fonts) would be a huge pain.

The PSP has a homebrew text reader called ebook reader that can do PDF files as well.

Probably doesn't help you out but I thought it may help someone...

If the suggested alternative doesn't work, why not create the solution?

This has probably already been said, but convert the PDF file into an image file, and view it on Comic Book DS. It works like a charm.

No, .PDF is too complicated a file for the DS to process.
If it did, it would probably be process very slowly.

    PDF's mainly use vector data.

And I believe the DS can use vectors.. so I don't know why It wouldn't be possible, but it would take allot of work and I don't know if there is much ask for it. So if your google search doesn't give you any results and there isn't a team working on this, then don't hold your breath for a couple of month's. It won't be coming to you in that timespan I can promise you that!
