Have there been any completed homemade remasters?

The only one I know that is actually a complete game is Jak & Daxter The Precusor Legacy, rest have been demos.

So you're thinking of games that didn't already have a PC port?

Jak & Daxter is indeed exceptional in that regard since its engine was released as open source. (I wouldn't really call it "homemade".)

I might have guessed that was based on the PC version, but it looks like it's a remake from scratch based on Unreal 5.

Depends on ones definition, especially with the term 'remaster'.

The N64 has seen some love in the last few years for decomps/ports and enhancements e.g. Ship of harkinian.

Black Mesa I'd argue is one given the OP, it's just that Valve allowed them to go commercial.

Like @tech3475 said, there have been a lot of decomps/ports lately.

Besides N64, the PS1-exclusive Driver 2 got a great PC fan-port.
AM2R was a great remake of Metroid II.

Yes, thank you, I did actually read the article when I linked to it. I will repeat my comment: no one seems to have written much about the particular history of the project: how they got started, how they decided this was a useful engine to reverse-engineer, what makes it different from other engines, that sort of thing.
