Hacking Have 3ds xl with 4.2 firmware, issue with installing rxtool, black screen.

I finally decided to download a new nightly build and now it is stuck at installation data suite. In a way it is improvement because when i use anoter 3.0 rxtools it never install the suite

Don't use the latest nightly build.
The source code has been messed up for 3 days.

ok, I have 3ds xl with 4.2 firmware and a gateway and a blue card. I tried to installrxtool with no success so I decide to wipe the 3ds xl and the sd card and start over and I did the following:

Reinstalled gateway and emunand.

install the mset 4.0 boot from blue card

put the following on the root of my sd card

RXtool folder
Firmware.bin
slot0x25KeyX.bin

And then I went to profile and ds mode and press L

got into rx menu but when I try to boot into emunand, the screen just turn back.

If you're using something under 3.0, I suggest 2.6. It's pretty stable. And where is your rxtools.dat?

If you're using the nightly builds, your firmware.bin file should go inside system folder in the rxtools folder.

2.6 doesn't support mset 6.X and devmode.
It also causes freezing at entering emuNAND 10.x Spotpass & Streetpass notification which is fixed since nightly 0901.

Allow me to describe my steps again.

1. Complete format of the 3ds xl
2. use sd formatter to complete erase prior emunand installationon the micro sd card.
3. Use Gateway and setup emunand
4. Took out the Sd card, use the 83afbb6 rxtool, downloaded the firmware with py tools, and slot0x25KeyX and put them to the root of the sd cards. I ensure the firmware is in rxtool/system folder
5. installed mset 4.X
6 go to ds profile
7. rxtools install
8. screen go black

As much as i want, I don't have a spare 32 gb 10 speed microsd card lying around

Try to downgrade your 3ds to 4.5.
install rxtools 2.6 and update your emunand.
Then upgrade to the latest nightly by copying the rxtools folder and putting your firmware.bin in the system folder.
Just my experience, but I have never been able to use rxtools nightlies without coldboot.

83afbb6 is the one that keepo messing up on mine

The last working nightly for me was this one: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/blmecish...v4F5a/rxTools_10-02-15_19-07.9f48bb8.zip?dl=0 which is almost a month old, but it works fine with the latest emuNAND firmware.
Remember to redownload the firmware.bin with the cdn_firm.py included and put it in rxTools\sys and slot0x25keyX.bin also goes there. You need to use a different installer for the mset exploit on 3.0.

What firmware did u use? I ma beginnign to wodner if i should upgrade my 4.2 to 9.2 since moast tutorial are base on that

It would be a good idea, but you need working CFW first in order to do that.
If you update to 9.2 you can use homemenuhax to autoboot CFW when you power on the 3DS which is really nice.

Good news, i decide to use a smaller sd card and boom it boot in rx mode. It does made me wonder why mty 16 gig sandisk ultra didn't work. Anyway, what should my first steps be? My emunand is still linked i think. Install fbi?
