Is there any way to install Custom CFW or anything close to that or is my only option the Sky3ds and can the sky3ds play out of region games if I have ironhax installed??

sky3ds is an option.. Although it cost about the same to get another 3ds xl on craigslist to use CFW with...
And, you are correct about being able to launch out of region with tubehax/ironhax/ninjhax2

Yeah I am trying to find a cheap 3ds xl with a low firmware whats the highest it can be so it can use CFW or GW

9.2, which is any non-new3ds in a box.

used is cheaper but introduces the real risk of a 9.3+ system. try b4 u buy

I also have an original 3ds on 9.2.0-20U Will any CFW work?? And whats the best CFW I heard there is Pasta and Rxtools

Yes that's perfect. Look up cakes FW.
Pasta is limited and rxtools dangerous unless you know what you're doing.

Rx is the best... I think its pretty stable unless you're using a nightly build..

Yep. And follow the guide that's on here for installing 2.6... other than a couple of file locations that have changed from the sd's route to rxtools/system, it will see you through.

So I just installed it and I always have to go the online page to boot into emunand?? Why is that when I always boot into emunand all the CIA's I installed I have to unbox them like they are new is there a way to make them normal

If you use one of the night lies you can set up downgraded system settings to be able to use the DS profile exploit (offline). To stop the unwrapping bug, turn off then on your 3ds, take out SD card, and format the system. Then put it back in and when you boot to emuNAND you won't have to unwrap anything again.

Depends what you want to do. It can make some things harder (like installing GBA games) but nothing is impossible. Personally I would always do it because the unwrapping bug is annoying.

I find the unwrapping bug useful to me because 1) I have heaps of homebrew on the homescreen and the cursor jumps directly to my CIA, and 2) I usually playthrough one game at a time (RPGs) so I've just got that title installed as CIA. I've got a flashcard for all the minor pickup and play for 10 minutes type games.

On topic: Get your hands on a unit with 9.2 firmware if you want to do all the naughty things on it that old mate Nintendo doesn't want you too!

Lol I found my old 3ds with 9.2 but that screen is so small lol I wanted to use my Zelda Link Between World Edition but the firmware is too high

Ouch, yeah, agreed. Once you go XL, there is no going back to eye-squinting on the original 3DS :-P
