The movie grossed $92.1m in a single day!! (Midnight gross was $43.5m alone!!) Adding worldwide grosses in, its total 1 day gross hits a jaw dropping $249m

What do you guys think its final gross will be?? Any guesses??
    I'm gonna go with $1.3bn.

Didn't Star Wars Episode III rake in more?

What about Titanics records?? (Avatar is a looonnnngggggg way)

@TheDarkSeed - Just checked, nope. Star Wars Episode III earned $50m on its opening day, of course those days ticket prices were low, no extra 3-D cost etc.

Does this mean that if there was no 3-D for HP7prt2/2, then this would mean that the opening wouldn't gross up to $92.1M? [IMG]

-i wonder if that even made sense-

Yes that's what it means, the 3D accounted 45% of the $92.1m in the US box office, which means, $41.4m out of the $92.1m was due to 3D shows.

In short, if HP7 Part 2 was in 2D only, it would've grossed $50.7m
Scratch that, finding out this will be really difficult, because converting those 3D show earnings into 2D earnings will be impossible.
No.of tickets sold for 3D shows (Of HP7P2) x 2D ticket price + $50.7m, will give the gross if movie was 2D...

thats assuming that everyone who got 3d would not have seen HP at all if it was just 2D. still if all of those who saw it in 3d, saw it in 2d instead, the total would be lower.

Are you saying that, were 3D not available, those people would simply not watch the movie?

This will have a hard time beating that of the (overly and non-deserving) popular Avatar, but I see it as being possible. The fan base for Harry Potter is VERY VERY large.

Figured it would do well. I haven't seen it yet, the constant Facebook status updates about it make me not want to.

yea dont bother. i saw it twice in 3d and so far spent 30 bucks (i never did this before with any other movie!!! my friends just keeps asking me out =[). im seeing it again on monday with another friend in 2d for the first time =D. ill probably just sleep in theaters.

theres only like 3-4 cool 3d scenes. the best one is when the dragon comes out of the screen. soo cool =] the rest of the movie has weak depth that you don't notice most of the time.

Avatar was on theaters from December 2009 to August 2010 (got this from the boxoffice site), of course not in US through-out, foreign gross of Avatar is $2bn alone..it had a massively long run.

I didn't bother with 3D. I saw the first 7 movies in 2D and I was going to continue with the tradition.

Watched the movie today, it was great, of course, a few of the changes made me mad, but it was good either way.

Good! They keep this up, the record is theirs.

Now to rid the world of those fangirls of that annoying POS series of movies before they roll around...

With the overwhelming (and quite surprising) audience and critical praise, and the extreme support from the fanbase, and the addition of 3D, it's got quite a good chance of at least getting past Titanic at the box office. Probably not Avatar, but hey, you never know.

I think that J.K. Rowling made a great decision of being a producer for this one. She's on her way to even further increasing her fortune.
