Does anyone have any knowledge they can share about cloning the hard drive in my Wii U?

My caddy/HD seems to becoming a little unreliable so I'd like to try and get a new one and create a backup of the contents of my HD.

I'm a bit concerned about the drive being locked to the Wii U after the Wii U has formatted it.

Try using something such as CloneZilla to clone the contents of the disk to another drive.
Or, I'm pretty sure you could just copy all of the files to another drive in File Explorer. Make sure the new drive gets formatted properly, though.

No, use CloneZilla and directly clone the entire partition. Neither Windows nor Linux can read the WFS filesystem.
Get another drive and connect it to the Wii U and copy over your data.
The best way to ensure that the new WFS partition takes up the entire drive, or whatever you left over for it.

That would also work if the new HDD has exactly the same size to the sector. Also II noticed the Wii U stopped liking the HDD when I just changed the SATA USB adapter.

What will happen: One day, you wiiU console will fall....Then your drive and backup will be unreadable on the new WiiU.....You'll be happy!!
That's the reason Loadiine and standard injections are nice.

Except that you can easily read them with wfs-extract/DumpsterU as long as you have the SEEPROM dump

Oh, it that so....You took a full year to put so many titles on the wiiU drive....And then, will you be happy to have to do it again when WiiU is Dead! No pb with that with Loadiine. That's the reason why it would be a good thing to port it on aroma.
