I felt compelled to write this because of an occurance at a family gathering yesterday. Before eating everyone was gathering to pray per usual. Now I'm agnostic and just stand there with my eyes closed off and on and usually trying not to giggle. Before it started my aunt was motioning to take my cap off. I didn't want to start shit so I took it off reluctantly. Just then the prayer started and, ironically, it was about freedom in America. Now I write this because antiquated customs seem to supersede the Constitution. Taking your hat off to eat, pray, during the national anthem, etc., holding your hand over your heart, standing up for the flag, etc. do not make you better than a person that doesn't. If you try to force the other person to do so than the other person is practicing what you claim to hold dear and they practice it better than you do. So, in theory you love the idea but in practice you only love it for yourself. It won't take away your freedoms and beliefs if someone doesn't follow suit with you, et al. So in conclusion, enjoy your freedom and let others enjoy theirs!
