Halo Reach may have broken sales records last week, but it seems that Japan’s gaming audience just wasn’t interested. Although Bungie’s latest entry in the Halo series sold a respectable number of copies, it came in fourth on the sales charts, following Pokemon Black & White, Front Mission Evolved, and Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force 05, of all things. It’s not surprising that Pokemon Black & White did so well, but Yu-Gi-Oh? C’mon!

According to 4Gamer.net, Pokemon Black & White for the Nintendo DS topped the sales charts for the week of September 13, selling a whopping total of 2,557,779 copies. Front Mission Evolved for the PS3 came in second with 51,084 copies sold. But the real kicker was Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force 05, which managed to outsell Bungie’s big new shooter with 45,879 copies sold last week. Halo Reach was a very close fourth with only 44,413 copies sold.

Above: Of course, Halo Reach seems to be selling like hot cakes everywhere else. The game raked in over $200 million in sales in the United States and Europe during its first day of release

First off, Halo never sells well in Japan, it's a completely different demographic. Hell I don't even see why they bother releasing them there.

Second, YuGiOh =/= Pokemon. Completely different games, even if they were riding the same fad train.

    Just saying.

Halo did really well for a western game. If memory serves me correct, the J video game market are genrally hostile to foreign games.

hm, just the title to grab people's attention. But they prefer Yu-Gi-Oh right after Pokemon. Some people just don't have taste. At my place, we don't even have a yu-gi-oh title, and we're half-quarter japanese.

I would imagine Japanese games would sell more in Japan.
    More than western games.

And as for "some people not having taste" to each their own.
People will like what they like, it's their choice and they believe it's their own good taste.

Wait....there are only 7 Xbox 360s in Japan...

That means....each person bought almost 6345 copies each!

    Japan must be rich!

    Yes [IMG]

But then people wouldn't read it if I wrote 'Pokemon is no.1 in Japan'. Who would read that? [IMG]

If sales have already covered development costs and everything from now is just profit, why not? >:

Anything that isn't Japanese is not going to sell in Japan.

    period. It's sad, really.

Halo is just more of the same again... I really don't see the excitement people have for this series. (Then again, Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh are rehashes too).

Don't fret though -- Halo was probably sold to all forty Japanese 360 owners.

Perhaps instead of writing misleading titles you simply should ponder whether this is news or not [IMG].

Simply put I'm gonna say stop putting "misleading" titles. News is news, there shouldn't be bias. You post the news article, post the source, and then put what you think, try to keep the title as Plain Jane as you can. Posting news isn't about who reads it the most and posts the most comments, it's about getting the info to the people. If you think it's a way to win a popularity contest then you are severely mistaken.

But as said before Pokemon and YuGiOh are both rather popular in Japan, Halo is not. I'm surprised it got as high as it did really.

The reason for this is because there aren't that many Xbox 360s in Japan to begin with (it's the lowest selling console). Relatively, I'm sure Halo Reach will do well.
