Don't we have a homebrew port for the Half-Life games anyway?
We only have half life 1, which has been ported to pretty much everything with xash3d engine. Anything source engine based (hl2, hl2ep1, hl2ep2) isn't. There's an official half life 2 andoird release for tegra devices but android 10 update on switch broke it.

Anyway that's faster than I expected, hopefully we could have all source 2013 based games running on switch (gmod, css, dod, etc..). Btw left 4 dead 1/2 and portal 2 have their own engine branches so don't get your hopes high for a portable left 4 dead game..

Might mess around with this later, if I remember correctly a lot of the source engine is controlled with scripts, so they might be able to be edited to make the game run better. Either way it would be great to get an official hl2 port to the switch, since it doesn't look like I'll be able to buy a steam deck anythime soon lol.

Fun fact, Half Life 2, Episode 1, and Episode 2, as well as Portal 1 have all been natively ported to Nvidia Shield tablets (which is all the Nintendo Switch is: a glorified Nvidia Shield tablet) so technically the ports already "exist," they just need a bit of work to get them over onto the Switch.

Twitter use OatmealDome has posted a video of Half life 2 running on Nintendo switch, he states that Portal is basically just a glorified Half-Life 2 mod already and that much of the code is the same

Excited to see the progress on this one

they are all basically just gmod and always have been so its not as much of a miracle as people make it out to be

Okay, one, no they aren't, gmod is just a mod of the source engine, and secondly, hooooooooly shit, no, it is not at all that simple, to get the games working properly from the Portal 1 branch of the Source engine (assuming that's what they're using and not either Source 2, or a later Source 1 variant) it's gonna take a lot more work than just casually dropping files in.

Yeah Portal was made with a modified version of the engine, maybe it's too modified to run the game without issues?

Yeah, Portal uses a modded special version of the engine to make the portals work. Also, you're thinking of the Xash port, which only supports GoldSrc games, such as the first HλLF-LIFE game. HL2 uses the Source engine, not GoldSrc/Xash.

Those ports were made for Android, which was what those Shield tablets ran on. The Switch doesn't natively run android, (it KINDA does but come on, not really) and even with the switch port of AOSP, it probably won't run those specific ports well even with a bit of work. I'd say VALVe would probs just use this Source engine port to the switch as a base for other ports of Source games, like HL2 or even TF2!

unless they really fucked it up most half life games, gmod, and portal 1 (among other games) use Source 2013 aka steampipe. the issue is portal 2 that has a separate branch

Wait, if Portal 1 uses Source 2013/Steampipe, but Portal 2 uses a later version, then does that mean that there's two versions of Source in the collection?
I assume so because you can literally drag and drop files from portal 1 into half life 2 for a fully working portal gun normally. unless they changed the portal 2 source engine

Actually there are multiple branches iirc. hl2/hl2ep1/hl2ep2/portal and css use source 2013 branch, portal 2 has its own branch, l4d/l4d2 have their own branch and csgo has its own branch. Half life alex and dota 2 use source 2.

Bought a used Nerf Mega blaster yesterday, good condition, but only got one single foam dart for it. And it was so chewed up, when I tried to fire it today it ripped the tip clean off and spat the thing out in two pieces.
