Hacking GTA Chinatown Wars on Wood R4

Sorry, this has probably been answered a million times before, but how do you get GTA:CW to work on Wood R4? I tried a clean rom and the arm7/arm9 patch thing. The clean rom does nothing, just gives me a black top screen and a white bottom screen, while the patched one tells me it's saving then freezes with two black screens.

once again, sorry for the nooby question, i've been googling it all day to no avail.

It's working fine here. Are you sure your ROM is clean? Is your SD card properly formatted? Are you using Wood R4 for real R4's or one of the weird clone versions?

i'm fairly certain my r4 is real, just says this on it:

R4

Revolution for DS
(NDSL/NDS)

and it has the two indents in the side like the one pictured above.
and i'm on the latest wood, i can try a different rom i guess

How about the formatting? Incorrect formatting is often the cause of loading problems. Use the Panasonic formatting tool.

i tried a different rom and it has the same black/white screen freeze as before. and i can't format atm, my SD reader,s being screwy, i have to use wiixplorer to get stuff onto my SD. is the arm7/9 patch required for wood?

No ARM patching of any kind has been required on flash carts manually for a very long time. It is all done automatically by the firmware. The only solution to your problem is to back up and format (properly).

Also back up your card and reformat with this
