"Grand Theft Auto: Vice City" is being ported to the SEGA Dreamcast by fans

The homebrew and romhacking community is always working on many great things, be it from QoL romhacks or mods, to even complete conversion and ports of entire games to other consoles or devices, as what the case with Grand Theft Auto III being ported by fans to the SEGA Dreamcast not long ago.

With what originally seemed like an April's Fools joke with the release being announced on April 1st, 2025, the team behind the original GTAIII port to the Dreamcast, which is currently still being polished and optimized, unveiled that they are now working on a port of Vice City to the Dreamcast as well using the very same optimized source code utilized for the GTAIII DC port, with beta footage of the Vice City port being shared of the game running on a real Dreamcast, albeit initially with no audio, but the progress is looking really promising for a project in such an infant stage.

Most of the heavy lifting has already been accomplished thanks to the initial port of GTAIII, which helped lay the groundwork for a port of Vice City to become a possibility on the Dreamcast system.

While the port itself is still in early stages, the current game is already playable, according to some reports, from start to finish, although the developers of the project mention that there's still a good amount of work to be for the port to reach a stable state, mostly focusing on performance, assets and features.

People interested in trying out this port can do so by providing the assets of their legally owned GTA Vice City game, and compiling the Dreamcast port from SKMP's repository by following the instructions given in the same repository for a proper compilation of the game, as well as what game release to use as the base and source for the assets.

I remember trying to look up news of GTA 3 for N64 and the Dreamcast back in the day, and now there is GTA for the DC.
If only it wasn't that hard to find a Dreamcast where I live. :/
I get that, but now I'd rather just use the DC emulator and load up wherever game/demo.

The devs are talented, no doubt. Getting GTA3 on the Dreamcast alone was surreal. Now, we're just going deeper into the rabbit hole.

I've said it before, but I cannot wait to see what else makes its way to the Dreamcast in the future.
Would be cool to see that PS1 Enhancement thing for Dreamcast be revived.

Tekken 3 and Gran Turismo 2 on the DC must have been awesome.

Vice City literally runs on the same engine as GTA 3, I'll only be convinced if they manage to make a San Andreas port

You mean Bleem?
Yes, Bleem. The game compatibility overall with the 'leaked' Bleem beta is mixed to say the least. The community hasn't updated the list in a really long time so your mileage varies; you'll see the often hiccups here and there with missing textures, no picture in FMV videos, and audio lag.

It would be good if the original developer of Bleem could at least provide the source code to the Dreamcast version.
