This may or may not help.

Didn't know about this. Still, the requirement for making an account just to save is preposterous.

Exactly, it's not as if people who already bought the game can no longer access it, and there are other sources available to purchase it still. Additionally, Steam even lets you download old versions of games through console commands. I did that recently to set up a second installation of Beat Saber since Facebook bought out the devs and they're moving toward cutting out mods/custom songs.

They reversed the music removal patch iirc..
Perhaps they delisted it in favor of listing it on their own launcher?

I played the mobile version on my PS3 and I experienced quite a lot of crashes, but had no problem completing the game.

That's just as silly as saying you hate physical media because discs can become unreadable or crack, and cartridge contacts can rust. If you're smart you'll always make digital backups regardless of the original format anyway.

I mean, the PC port is pretty awful, so console only is a better choice.

i have the steam version, but i have to some "alternative" copies too. mostly because of the music removed (yes, i think that some of the removed musics are part of the game's charm. like "age of seventeen', for example) and that's why i hated when "don't be cruel", by bobby brown, was removed from san andreas. but yeah, you can always add that songs in your personal radio station... without the narrator say funny things about the music ;(

ps: i don't think that GTAIV was pulled from steam, because "everyone plays GTAV". and i believe that GTAIV is going back in some form.

I still have game tapes that work, floppy discs too, many cartridges as well. I can also sell them and buy them from other people.

We are now 11 years and change on with this, no technical impediments to it, maybe a legal one that probably could have been dodged by various actors (good contract, bulk purchase of keys as a reserve -- we have seen game shops buy their own stock before), company owning the rights with more money than the ninja king himself, and we are left with a handful of dubious routes at best to play what is a defining game of a generation in a world renowned series.
People then tell me digital is the future, and theoretically it could be, but if I can't be assured games will be there and can't dip into the second hand market because every roadblock is thrown up all the time then what a grim future that looks like. I choose then to make people aware of these little foibles when relevant, but I do find it curious when people are in such a rush to defend all this (granted not as much as the "second hand hurts the poor game devs, might as well rip food from the mouths of their children", though I suspect such people go to the same parties).

If you lock the files down as read-only and set the permissions to Administrator, can they still remove them?

As do I, but that doesn't make my previous statement any less true. We're just now beginning to see the flaws with disc-based media as a long-term storage solution, for music in particular, and people are again favoring vinyl records for that reason.

Which works the same way for digital activation keys, though that market tends to favor buyers more than sellers, where physical media is the opposite. So much so that a lot of revered games in physical format become prohibitively expensive at one point or another, even if in poor condition.
