GPD is reportedly working on an AMD 5800U-based handheld PC

Yesterday, AYA NEO, AMD 4500U-based handheld gaming PC, launched its Indiegogo crowdfunding campaign. While their ambitious device might be the first AMD-based handheld gaming PC, they won't be the last. As reported by @geargeeksp on YouTube, GPD is also working on an AMD-based handheld gaming PC. According to their international marketing manager, YYang, their preliminary model is based on the 5800U processor and have it running Devil May Cry 5.

Everything is still at an early stage and the device's look has yet to be seen but GPD will indeed work on an AMD-based device. Apparently, it could be a new MAX model, rather than the GPD Win 4; meaning that it will feature a clamshell design. As for what a 5800U-based handheld means for PC games and emulators, you can watch @geargeeksp 's video that elaborates on the possibilities:

GPD has years of experience building such devices and it would be interesting to see what they come up with, especially given that other promising competitors have entered a market which GPD was once solely occupying. Would you like to have a 5800U-based handheld? And what about the design? Would you prefer a clamshell model or something more akin to the Win 3 with a sliding screen?

the MAX was one with keyboard and all but still had the joysticks. this new one could be the same.

GPD pocket for me.
I wouldn't utilize the thumbsticks and controller buttons at all ;p

I would like to get my hands on one of the older Win models but not only do the prices of old models not drop as newer models are released, the prices have gone up.
I wish I had backed the first one when it was $350 :(

Considering Sony’s working relationship with AMD, they should really re-enter the handheld market with a true PSP2 (Vita, as much as I liked it, was a terrible branding decision) with x86 architecture.

A handheld capable of running current and previous gen games with downgrade patches rather than requiring full conversion ports to ARM, would be super developer friendly and could be a smash hit.

I doubt they’ll ever do it, but Nintendo (and the likes of GPD) have proven that the handheld market is growing, not dying.

If it makes you feel better, I backed the first one and it wasn't good. One of my analog sticks has a weird bump, the tv out doesn't work and it got hot. The last time I used it, the wifi doesn't work any more,

Damn, I just want an R7 5800U HTPC or Apple M1(or soon M2) if it will in future fully support Win 10 and both DirectX/OpenGL. At such low TDPs, they are BEASTS!

It annoys me how they announce this so soon after the Win 3's campaign has ended. It's a kick in the balls for Win 3 early bird backers like me who cannot now cancel their pledge.
