Govee Glide Wall Lights Impressions

Today we’re checking out another lighting accessory from Govee: the Govee Glide Wall Light. While not specifically targeted to gamers, its customisation options and RGB LEDs are well adapted to supplement your gaming setup. So let’s take a closer look.

Unlike the Govee RGBIC LED Neon Rope Lights, the Glide Wall is not bendable as the LEDs are within a fixed plastic tubing. Nevertheless, the product still offers some level of freedom to customise its shape as it comes with a number of interchangeable modules. There are two versions of the Govee Glide Wall, each with different numbers of modules (and length). The 6+1 version (6 straight modules and one corner piece) costs $100 and offers 70.86 inches of chord length. The 8+4 version (8 straight modules and 4 corner pieces) costs $150 and offers 94.48 inches of chord length. The latter model was provided for this impressions piece and comes with the following items:

  • 8 straight LED modules (300mm x 35mm)
  • 4 corner piece LED modules
  • Power adapter
  • User manual
Starting at $100, the Glide Wall Lights is not a cheap accessory and you will surely find more affordable alternatives online. However, Govee has a decent track record of its product quality and supplements its lighting products with additional features through its companion app.

The Glide Wall Lights itself is rather sturdy, with the plastic casing offering protection for the LEDs within as well as doubles as a shade so that the lights aren’t blinding. Moreover, the plastic material helps keep the modules light; meaning that they will safely stick to your wall with the included double sided tape at the back.

The modules adopt an interesting lego-like design where you can easily clip one module to the next and shape the set to your liking.

As with the RGBIC LED Neon Rope Lights, the Glide Wall Lights are packed with Govee’s RGBIC technology, meaning they both share the same lighting features. With this tech, the Glide Wall can display up to 57 colours at a time and allows you to tune those colours from 16 million in total though the companion app. The app also supports voice control over Google Assistant and Alexa.

Via the Govee app, you can get further creative by customising the segments individually, have the set sync with music from the phone’s mic or even based on themes. These features and customisation options really help make the setup truly yours, and help the Glide Wall stand out.

While the product quality and features are more than decent, there are areas that Govee could improve with the Glide Wall Lights. Firstly, the steep cost might be off putting to many potential adopters. To counter this, the company could have offered customers the option to mix and match modules to their liking. This could bring the cost down if you need less than 6 modules and could also help customers better customise their set up.

Secondly, the Glide Wall lacks controls on the control box like the LED Neon Rope packs. This would help for quick adjustments and controls. The control box in the Glide Wall bears a mic to sync lights to the audio you’re playing. However, I noticed that the sync would work only when my phone’s screen is on. So this should be something the company looks at for a future update.

Moreover, the wall attachments, which are really just double sided tapes, are glued to the back of each module. A better option might have been clips like the Govee RGBIC LED Neon Rope Lights included (but wider to fit the modules in this model), so that you could more easily move the modules and have different locations to set them up without having to take out the wall attachment in the process. An alternative would be for Govee to include separate double-sided tapes for the user to employ at their leisure.

Overall, in addition to the overall product quality, the features that the Govee Glide Wall Light pack are rather handy and unique, especially with the companion app. However, the price is still steep; so you’ll want to consider the Glide Wall if you are looking for a quality RGB lighting add-on with some neat features.

Great review. I'm always looking at new lighting for my games room but it's so tiny (about 2m x 3.5m) that I'd struggle to find space for any 😅

Price doesn't seem too bad. I love lights that you can adjust the shape of and the way you've set up the GBSTemp screen with them in the review looks epic!
