People suggesting games doesn't work for me. What most think are great, I think suck, and vice-versa. My suggestion is to just figure it out for yourself. You now have access to EVERY DS game ever made. I'm sure you'll eventually find a cart full to suit you.

A game that is not on the essentials is:

Taiko No Tatsujin.

I can't believe I actually remember the name, but the game is really good, a rythm game with little drums with dog personalities.

Picross is a Puzzle game. I got it yesterday after reading this thread and I gotta say it is a pretty fun puzzle game.
