Try The world Ends With You. It's set in Shibuya ( a district of Tokyo) and full of J-Pop. It's about as Japanese as you can get.

FYI guys, I think he's meaning classical Japanese style, not the modern stuff. So like medieval times, not modern ones. So SMT and TWEWY don't really fit that criteria.

Okamiden, which will be released some time this year, takes place in a kinda ancient Japanese environment. There's also Mini Ninjas. I'm blanking on other games though.

There's Shiren the wanderer and Izuna: The unemployed Ninja. I can't really think of any others.

    The Legend Of Kage 2

    ----

As mentioned above, Izuna: The legend of the Unemployed Ninja fits there same for its sequel.

Also, There's a "Mistical Ninja" game for ds too (Japanese only).

You should try The Legend Of Kage (The original) For NES too. It's one of my favourite games ever.

I'm sure you can get more games of this kind via emulation on DS, But you gotta search [IMG].

Not much gameplay in actual towns and such but Ninja Gaiden is obviously in those times.
