Good programs for converting videos for PSP?

Back when the PSP was still in it's early stages, I used to use PSPvideo9 to convert my AVIs to watch on my PSP. Then for some reason, I stopped watching movies on my PSP for a while... until now. But when I got the latest PSPvideo9, it doesn't feel like it's the best program to use anymore. So what's the recommended program to use for converting movies to watch on a PSP?

The best success I had converting videos was using xvid4psp (output to PMP AVC format) and then using PMPlayer to play them (both available from http://www.winnydows.com/xvid4psp.html). The resulting videos look stunning and were in a much higher res and quality than I was able to get using anything else.

So I'm using that program but is there any settings in there than can help speed up the conversion?
