100,000 apps
maybe 20 of them are good
in all fairness it's very expensive if all he wants is media playing which....the iPod touch really doesn't do that well....
I could probably name 200 awesome ones off the top of my head.

Granted, I agree on the second point.

Like you'll need to pay more than $50 for a decent pair, anything between $60-$400 is pointless audiophilia and above that is something you shouldn't be using on an MP3 player
a good pair of Sony headphones will do him fine
That's not really true at all.

If you can tell the difference between an S9 and iPod Touch, you should be able to tell the difference between, say, SR60s and HD280s. Once you break about 150USD you're trudging into the "pointless audiophilia" (as far as I'm concerned).

(and Sony makes pretty shit headphones)
Still, my tastes > your tastes, my pair has lasted me a while and has stellar quality.

But let's consider this, headphones are a completely different thing from the player itself so he should probably decide that himself. He said a touch was too expensive.

The tastes of professional reviewers > the tastes of random unknown on a forum

If birdman gave a shit about professional reviewers, and didn't want our opinions, he wouldn't be asking us.

So you want to support his poor decision by giving him the bad advice which suits it?

Sorry, I forgot I wasn't entitled to an opinion, and that my personal experiences with devices was completely unique.

ANYWAY

He should get a pair of headphones that matches the price of the player he wants; If he pays too little he gets wasted quality, if he pays too much he gets wasted money. Maybe 1/3 the price of his player? His budget would be nice....

You are indeed entitled to your opinion, as am I entitled to my opinion of your opinion.

I prefer something better with video and photo functions, atleast 8gb of memory, and innovation (ex. touch screen or wifi)
An ipod touch fits the bill very well here. An 8gb jailbroken itouch is one of your best options, especially if you want inovations. I don't quite get why you don't want an ipod, though

Guys guys, please you shouldn't argue..

I see both of your perspectives, they both make sense.
If I can find an 8 gb iTouch for under $100 (2nd Gen), that would be great..
Now I'm leaning towards one, because of all the extras--but I don't think there are any under 100 that are good.

Sorry to say birdman, but you are describing exactly what an iPod is capable of doing. Video, Music, Innovation, all around good quality. Don't let other users who are anti-apple fool you, it is easily one of the best media players available now. Don't take my word for it, read the professional reviews.

...You want a player under a hundred bucks that does decent audio, video and comes with a lot of extras? Nevermind. There's a lot of ads on craigslist that's around 90 to 140.

I didn't say extras, but thanks anyways..
How much are cowons here in Canada, or are they even here?
Online only.

They sell'em at NCIX and a few other stores, but it's overpriced. The only Cowon you're going to find under a hundred bucks is the one without a screen.
