After doing a bit of reading, I've found out that I'm going to buy an Acekard 2i, and looked to shoptemp to buy it.

However, I found this on the shoptemp Acekard page: PLEASE NOTE: While the Acekard 2i is compatible with the DSi and DSi XL (1.4 firmware and above), the cart may need to be patched with firmware update that enables this compatibility. You will need a regular Nintendo DS or DS Lite to perform this update, or alternatively we can do it if you choose the Premium Flashing Service.

It seemed that this flashing service was only possible if I also bought a microSD card (which I have enough of already)

Now I also looked at another site, lightake.com, and they say the following on their Acekard 2i page: All the Acekard 2i on Lightake.com are compatiable with the latest firmware 1.4.1 , no need to upgrade since Nov.5th 2010 .

Does this mean that lightake has performed the "premium flashing service" on all their Acekards already?

Yes. But I've never even heard of lightake.com o.0

If you have access to a DSi that's below 1.4 or a DSL [it's hard not to find a DSL from a friend] for 2 minutes, you can do it yourself. It's easy.

If you have a MicroSD at home, try and find a friend who you can borrow their DSL.

that's one thing I don't like about shoptemp
while everyone else flash their carts to work with 1.4.1
shoptemp charge you for it..all the hidden fees adds up
like if you want a tracking number and/or the packaging, you have to pay an extra $2.50
while other shops do it for free

updating your cart (AK2i, DStwo) is easy enough.

On the MicroSD select "None" then choose the update option below.

Earlier this month I bought an R4 Original on there, and it was $6. And for the packaging and all that, the only option I got was $1.00 extra for the packaging. Of course it didn't work because the R4 doesn't qualify for it. But still. When did this thing come into play?

I guess so, I bought it from lightake and it's 100% genuine

acekard 2i

shoptemp
$15.99+$2 for flashing+$2.50 for tracking and packaging= $20.49

RHS.HK
$14.85+$2 for tracking+ $0 for flashing= $16.85

For this shipping method, we will not include the large products packaging. Some flashcarts come in relatively large boxes that can render the shipping fee too expensive.
since they don't specify which product is considered "large", I always pay the $2.50..I didn't want to risk getting my cart without it's packaging

I wouldn't buy from RealHotStuff.
They knowingly sold a clone AceKard and lied saying it was real.
When problems started to arise, they lied and said it was a 'bad batch'.
Then they lied and said that the AceKard team was going to release a fix.

GameKool sells AK2is for $15.10 with free shipping and you get the box, but no flashing service.
I got mine in 8 days and it was shipped around a Chinese holiday.

Delivery of 8 days is not possible at this time of the year. the potential delay is up to weeks in the run-up to xmas.

Depending on where you are and if you pay the fast shipping. It's always been weeks though.

Ended up buying it at ShopTemp, probably because it seems that there are very few bad experiences with them (even though shipping takes its time).

And yeah, I missed the possibility of choosing "none" for the microSD the first time, so thanks for the tip twiztidsinz.

Not their fault. With all the happenings going on with the mail, everybody around the world is getting delayed parcels.
