Today, digital storefront GOG has announced the GOG Preservation Program as a continuation of its committment to preserve and restore classic video games. With this new initiative, GOG is ensuring that games remain compatible with modern systems. The company is committing its own resources to maintaining their compatibility with modern systems.

Classic games that have been improved by GOG in this way now have an official stamp on the storefront. There are currently 100 of them, including the Resident Evil series and, released today, Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete and Dungeon Keeper 2.

I just wish they had more Linux support. I can install the game just fine, but if I try to install DLC/updates, it'll never be able to find my install location, and GOG won't let me select my install location.

It's a business necessity. As time goes on, folks will move on to newer OSes. If gog does not keep up with it, few are going to buy their old catalog of games as they simply won't be able to run them or run them well.

The only question is whether it will apply to the "modern" games they are selling. For example, fallout 4. Another 10 years down the road, will they try to update it for compatibility? Will bethesda/microsoft allow them to do so?

They already used DosBox. What are they doing to "preserve further"?

Neat though.

On a sidenote, their badge basically says "Preserved Good Old Game by Good Old Games". I like their humor.

It's great news for GOG! I love GOG more ever than lousy Steam, etc which remove support for old operating systems.

GOG always support old operating system like Windows XP, Vista, 7, 8 and 10 then will add Windows 11, 12 and in the future.

Dear GOG, please don't remove support on Windows XP to Windows 10, Many people had old gaming computers around world. I still have 4 Windows XP machines at my home to use play video games anytime for many years to go.

GOG should support Linux operating system.

Let go, go GOG! Never give up! Congrats to GOG for keep up hard working!:yay:
