Homebrew Godmode9.firm vs Godmode9_dev.firm?

For every Godmode9 release, I noticed there are two distinct firm files: Godmode9.firm and Godmode9_dev.firm (along with their respective sha files), however, I can't find any info whatsoever online explaining the difference between the two, and by simply booting them on my 3DS they look the same. Can someone enlighten me?

I assume the dev versions are meant for dev 3DSes. I could be wrong though.

I assumed the dev version would maybe output / display debug info which could be used to help fix as-yet-undiscovered problems or bugs - not really anything for regular users performing common functions to worry about.
